GW6 Top Three Captaincy Picks

Fantasy Football Fix 20 Sept. 2018

Caveat : Going forward, the Captaincy picks will be in the below format -

  • Number one pick predicted as per the Fix Algorithm
  • Differential pick (Under 25% ownership)
  • Out there pick (Under 15% ownership)

Mohamed Salah (SOU)

On the back of two consecutive blanks, Salah is under pressure to justify his 13m price tag. The Egyptian winger endured an off night in the Champions League against PSG, giving the ball away for the Parisians’ equalizer, only to be rescued by Firmino’s late winner. His record at Anfield speaks for itself – the Egyptian has been involved in 28 of Liverpool’s 49 goals in their last 20 Premier League home games. As the table shows, Salah still leads the league for shots in the box (SiB), with 16, joint-top with Agüero and Wilson. He is also joint-top for attempted assists with 16, tied with D. Silva, leading to a league high xFPL (expected FPL points) of 41.2. His opponents, Southampton, surrendered a two goal lead at home to Brighton in gameweek 5, and have poor defensive stats, with 28 shots on target (SoT) conceded, the 15th worst in the league. Salah scored three goals against the Saints last season, and will be looking to make amends for his midweek performance. Our Fix Algorithm backs the Egyptian to be the top point scorer this week, with a point score of 8.0

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (EVE)

Arsenal appear to be finding their feet under Emery, winning their last three games, after a shaky start. A key component to this turnaround in form has been the strike pairing of Aubameyang and Lacazette. The Gunners have fired in 32 SoT this season, the third highest in the league, behind Liverpool (35) and Man. City (45). The Gabonese international has only accounted for four of these SoT, but his opponents, Everton, should afford him plenty of opportunities to increase that total. The Toffees defending was abysmal in their last game, conceding three goals to the Hammers at home. Despite a relatively benign fixture list, where they faced Wolves, Southampton, Bournemouth, Huddersfield and West Ham, the Toffees are yet to keep a clean sheet and have conceded nine goals, only four other teams have conceded more. Aubameyang could have hardly asked for a sweeter fixture, and our Fix Algorithm predicts a point score of 5.2 for the Gabonese striker.

Romelu Lukaku (WOL)

While another Belgian dominated the headlines in gameweek 5, Lukaku with four goals and 29 FPL points has largely flown under the radar, with only 10.4% ownership. He has had nine SoT, level with Salah, and two more than the top scoring forward, Agüero. Man. United also look to have regained their attacking edge, crafting seven big chances for the Belgian, tied with Wilson. Despite all the bad press surrounding the Red Devils, their attacking stats are actually quite impressive. They have notched 46 SiB and 29 SoT, fifth best in the league in both statistics. Wolves might not be easy opponents though. The newly promoted outfit has conceded only 25 SiB in their five games, the fourth best in the league and only four 'big chances', second only to Liverpool with two. This is especially impressive keeping in mind they played Man.City, Everton and Leicester, all sides in the top half of the table last year. The Red Devils will be relying heavily on Lukaku to breach the Wolves defense, and our Fix Algorithm predicts a point score of 5.1 for the Belgian.
