GW35+ Top Five Key Players

Fantasy Football Fix 10 July 2020

Headliner - Sadio Mané (BUR)

After being given a rest midweek, Mané is set to return to the starting XI for Burnley’s visit to Anfield, where he has scored in each of his last four outings. As the Stats Sandbox shows, since gameweek 27, only Martial (51) has returned more than his 41 Fantasy Premier League (FPL) points in home matches amongst midfielders. Meanwhile Antonio and Martial (each five) are the only players to have racked up more than his four 'big chances' and he ranks top amongst teammates with an expected goals figure (xG) of 2.24. Liverpool have scored nine goals since the restart, only Newcastle, Arsenal (both 10), Chelsea (12), Man. Utd. (15) and Man. City (18) have been more prolific. Their total of 11 ‘big chances’ is bettered only by Arsenal (12), Man. Utd. (16), Chelsea (17) and Man. City (22). Burnley have conceded six goals since the restart, keeping three clean sheets. However, no team has allowed opponents more shots than the Clarets’ 77 and only Sheff. Utd. and Palace (both 13) have allowed opponents more ‘big chances’ than their 11. Our Fix Algorithm currently projects a point score of 6.5 for the Senegal international.

Jamie Vardy (bou)

Vardy leads the Golden Boot race by two goals after rescuing Leicester with a late equaliser against the Gunners, scoring for a fifth time in six gameweeks. No Fantasy Premier League (FPL) forward has amassed more than his five 'big chances' or his 39 FPL points during that time, with only Ings able to match that points return. Aubameyang (13), Ings and Jesus (each 14) are the only players that can better his 12 shots in the box (SiB). He is the second most popular transfer target this week with nearly 150,000 managers bringing him in already as per our Transfer Stats feature. Leicester have scored six goals since the restart and only seven teams have created more ‘big chances’ than their nine. The Cherries have the worst defensive record in the league since the restart, conceding 12 goals. They have allowed opponents 10 ‘big chances’ and 21 shots on target (SoT) in those five matches. Our Fix Algorithm currently projects a point score of 6.7 for Vardy.

Anthony Martial (SOU)

An assist against Aston Villa brings Martial to four goals and three assists in the last four gameweeks, where he has averaged 11.0 points per game (PPG) as per our Fix Heatmaps feature. Amongst FPL midfielders, only B. Fernandes has picked up more points in that time (47 to 44). A total of five SoT ranks the Frenchman behind only Fernandes (six), Antonio (seven) Salah and Willian (both nine). Man. Utd. have been on fire since the restart with 15 goals in their five games. Only Man. City (18) have found the back of the net with more regularity. They have created 16 ‘big chances’ which is only bettered by Chelsea (17) and Man. City (22). Southampton have conceded four goals since the restart, only Wolves, Everton, Man. Utd. and Man. City (all three) have been more solid at the back. Man. City (15), Liverpool, Everton (both 13), Wolves and Man. Utd. (both 10) are the only teams to have allowed opponents fewer SoT than the Saints’ 16. Our Fix Algorithm currently projects a point score of 5.8 for the Frenchman.

Mason Greenwood (SOU)

With four goals and one assist over the last four gameweeks, no FPL forward has amassed more points than Greenwood (34) at an average of 8.5 PPG. Only Kane and Calvert-Lewin (each 12) have attempted more shots in total, and his total of six SoT is only bettered by Aubameyang (eight). No Man. Utd. teammate has fired more than his eight SiB. It is also worth noting that he is expected to go up in price soon, as per our Price Change Predictor feature. Man. Utd. have scored 37 goals in their home matches this season, only Liverpool (46) and Man. City (50) have notched more on home turf. Their total of 109 SoT is bettered only by Liverpool (112) and Man. City (120), while only Chelsea (299) and Man. City (357) have taken more shots than their 281. Southampton have conceded 23 goals on their travels this season, only seven teams have conceded fewer. They have allowed opponents 66 SoT with only Wolves (60), Man. Utd (59) and Liverpool (46) faring better. However, our Fix Algorithm currently projects a point score of 3.4 for the striker.

Matt Doherty (EVE)

Despite narrowly missing out on a clean sheet after a late Sheff. Utd. goal last gameweek, Doherty has averaged 5.6 PPG since the restart. Jonny, Alexander-Arnold, Digne, Wan-Bissaka (each 29) and Egan (30) – who scored the goal for the Blades – are the only FPL defenders with more points. The right-wing-back ranks joint-fifth amongst defenders for attempted assists (six) during this period just behind Chilwell, van Aanholt (both seven), Azpilicueta (eight) and Digne (nine). Wolves have conceded just three goals since the restart, the best defensive record in the league over that period. They have the best underlying numbers too, no team has conceded fewer ‘big chances’ (three) or allowed fewer SoT (10). Everton have scored just four goals since the restart and only Bournemouth (three), Villa (two) and Norwich (one) managed fewer. Meanwhile, Norwich (three) are the only team to have created fewer ‘big chances’ than the Toffees’ five. Our Fix Algorithm currently projects a 50% chance of a Wolves clean sheet and a point score of 4.9 for Doherty.
