GW33 Top Five Key Players

The Editor 5 April 2018

Headliner - Christian Eriksen (stk)

It’s been a while since Mr Eriksen made the cut in our illustrious “Top Five”, but he is back with a bang, featuring as our headliner for gameweek 33, off the back of a 5.4 points per game average over the last seven gameweeks. The Denmark international found his eighth league goal of the campaign against Chelsea last weekend and has now provided a total of 17 Fantasy Premier League (FPL) involvements this season. His 34 shots on target so far is on par with De Bruyne and Sánchez, while only Salah, with 60, has taken more amongst midfielders. In the last four league games, only David Silva, with three, has provided more assists than the Spurs man, with two, while no player has produced more than his three ‘big chances created’. Eriksen’s 13 efforts at goal during the same period is only beaten by Mahrez, Salah, both with 14, and Stanislas, with 16, amongst midfielders. Spurs have scored 10 goals over their last four matches, which is on par with Liverpool and no team have managed more. The North London club will face 19th placed Stoke in gameweek 33 and will have their leading goal-scorer back in the team, which should give Eriksen a boost. Our Fix algorithm predicts that Spurs will score 2.24 goals and Eriksen can manage a score of 5.5 points based on current form.

Jamie Vardy (NEW)

Vardy, has been a linchpin for Leicester once again this season, much like he has for the previous two campaigns, making up for his lack of double-digit hauls with a very handsome game average of 4.7 points. Lukaku’s is 5.1 to give that further context. The Foxes’ forward found his 15th league goal of the season against Brighton last weekend and he has now scored in six of his last eight matches. Vardy’s total of nine shots on target during that period, from gameweek 24 to 32, is level with Lukaku and just three less than Firmino, who has produced 12, despite the Liverpool man playing an extra game. Over that same period, only Salah, with 11, and Agüero, with eight, have more goals to their name than Vardy, who has six. Leicester have scored eight goals over their last four matches which is just one fewer than what both Manchester clubs achieved and two fewer than Spurs and Liverpool. Leicester will be licking their lips for gameweek 33 given that Newcastle have conceded an average of two goals a game across their last four away ties. The Fix algorithm gives Vardy a projection of 4.8 points for gameweek 33, and we cannot see why he cannot manage his first double-points haul since gameweek one’s, 13 points.

Joshua King (CRY)

2016/17’s budget superstar is back. The Norwegian is currently averaging 5.75 points per game over the last four gameweeks, so it could be the right time to transfer him in given this week’s appetising home tie to relegation strugglers, Crystal Palace. Two fixtures in double gameweek 34 also appeals. So far this season he has directly contributed to nine league goals, however, three of his FPL involvements coming during the last four gameweeks, in games against Leicester, West Brom and Watford. Amongst forwards, priced under 8.5, King’s three shots on target in the last four gameweeks can only be beaten by Murray, with five, Barnes, Tosun, Wood, with six and Rondon with eight, while only Tosun with four, and Wood, with five, have provided more FPL involvements during that time. Bournemouth will welcome Crystal Palace for gameweek 33. The Eagles have only managed five points from their last nine league games, conceding almost two goals a game on average during that period. King is forecast to score 3.8 points currently via our algorithm, suggesting an FPL involvement looks likely.

Marco Arnautovic (che)

Arnautovic, does blow hot and cold, that we cannot deny. But, when on song he propels himself into the bracket of the league’s finest players, transforming himself into an unplayable tormentor, as shown in gameweek 32. West Ham’s top goal scorer scored two goals to secure the 3-0 win over Southampton last weekend and he has now been directly involved in 13 goals this season, with nine goals and four assists from 24 appearances. He is flourishing in an ‘out of position’ role, playing as West Ham’s centre-forward. He has now scored six of his nine goals and delivered three of his four assists in eight of his 24 appearances. Over the last six gameweeks the Austrian international’s three goals is level with Alli and Mané, while only Son, with four, and Salah, with eight, have scored more. Arnautovic has racked up 11 efforts on target over that same period, a total that is more than Son, with nine, and Mahrez or Willian, with eight. West Ham travel to Chelsea for gameweek 33, which will put some off investing. However, Chelsea have not exactly been flying through the gears recently. The Blues have conceded 11 goals in their last seven games, and Arnautovic while this fixture looks challenging for the Austrian, the fact our Fix algorithm predicts a point score of 3.0 suggests attacking returns are not improbable.

Lewis Dunk (HUD)

Who would have thought it? Dunk, gracing us with his presence in our “Top Five”. Yes, even we are astounded, but we must remember that Brighton did keep eight clean sheets in their first 21 top-flight games and Huddersfield are finding goals hard to come by. Like this week’s other “Top Five” pick, King, he also has two fixtures for the double gameweek 34. The centre-back has promised lots in the way of attacking returns than what his solitary goal suggests, having taken a total of 21 efforts from inside the box which is on par with Man. City’s Otamendi. On a similar note, Dunk’ eight shots on target this season can only be beaten by five defenders, Alonso, Zappacosta, Otamendi, Moses and Janmaat, with 19, 11, 10, 9 and 9 respectively. When compared with his teammates, Dunk, has made more ball recoveries, with 210, blocked shots, with 50, and interceptions, with 58, than any other Brighton defender this season. Brighton have conceded six times over their last four matches but only Man. City, with three, and Spurs, with two, have given up fewer ‘big chances’ to their opponents in that time, compared with Brighton’s four. Huddersfield make the long trip south for gameweek 33 and Brighton will be expected to pick up their ninth clean sheet of the season given that Huddersfield have only managed two goals in their last six away games. Our fix algorithm predicts a solid score of 4.3 points for Dunk, and tips Brighton as having a 49% chance of a clean sheet, the second best across all teams.
