GW31 Top Five Key Players

The Editor 15 March 2018

Headliner - Mohamed Salah (WAT)

Salah (10.6), will be looking to steal a march on Kane (12.8) in his pledge for the golden boot during gameweek 31 and having scored in 15 of his last 22 premier league matches who would bet against him adding to his total of 24 goals. The Egyptian maestro was kept at bay by Man. United in gameweek 30 but has provided Fantasy Premier League (FPL) returns across the last six gameweeks prior to that. Over that period the stats read; six goals and two assists and no other player in the league has scored more goals or provided more FPL involvements in that time. The Liverpool midfielder has had eight shots on target over the last six gameweeks which is on par with Son (8.2) and Stanislas (5.9). Over the course of the season, Salah, has registered 11 more goals, 13 more big chances and 24 more shots on target when compared to players with a fixture in gameweek 31. Watford will travel to Anfield this weekend carrying a dreadful record against the top six this year. Over the last six games versus the top six the Hornets have conceded 14 goals at an average of 2.33 a game. Salah is predicted to score a whopping 9.9 points via our Fix algorithm - so, do not try and be clever, Captain Salah.

Junior Stanislas (WBA)

Stanislas (5.9), has emerged as the most secure attacking asset for Bournemouth having started the last six games and has weighed in with three goals and two assists in his last seven league appearances. The Bournemouth midfielder now has seven FPL involvements to his name for the season, from just 13 starts. Stanislas has taken a total of 22 shots during the last six gameweeks and only Kane, with 29, has taken more amongst all players. When considering players with a gameweek 31 fixture the Bournemouth man’s total of eight shots on target from the last six gameweeks is level with Firmino (9.5)/Salah, and no one can top them. The winger has also provided nine attempted assists over that time-frame which is again level with Salah. Mooy (5.3), with 10, Doucouré (5.5)/Mané (9.4), with 12, and Shaqiri (6.3), with 14, are the ones to have produced more when analysing the gameweek 31 midfielders. Bournemouth will host West Brom in gameweek 31 and are projected to score 1.72 goals against the Baggies via our Fix algorithm, the second highest behind Liverpool. West Brom have lost their last six league games conceding 16 goals, at an average of 2.67 goals a game. Our Fix algorithm predicts a score of 4.0 for Stanislas.

Roberto Firmino (WAT)

Firmino (9.5), is without question the must-have forward for gameweek 31. If you are still to transfer him in then we suggest you wait no longer, or risk a severe rank drop. A lot has been made of Firmino’s all-round play recently which has helped launch numerous attacks. The Liverpool forward has weighed in with an impressive 13 goals and eight assists this season and it is only Salah who has provided more FPL involvements, 34 to 21, amongst players set to feature in gameweek 31. The Brazilian international is one of the more creative players to feature this week and only Shaqiri has attempted more assists over the season. His total of 11 big chances this season is joint highest amongst gameweek 31 players alongside Shaqiri and Townsend (5.6). Over the last four gameweeks Firmino’s six shots on target is the highest amongst all players with a gameweek 31 fixture with Salah the only player to topple his recent total of FPL involvements, with five to four. Liverpool host Watford in gameweek 31 and our Fix algorithm suggests Liverpool will score 3.14 goals versus Watford, a projection no other gameweek 31 team comes close to. Our Fix algorithm’s point forecast for Frimino is 6.4 points. A viable captain alternative if you are brave/mad.

Leighton Baines (stk)

Baines (5.6), gets our vote over Coleman (6.4) for gameweek 31, but it was a mightily tight toss-up between the pair. Price and last season’s underlying numbers just edging it in favour of the Englishman in the end. After making his long-awaited return from a calf injury in gameweek 30 the Everton left-back took little time to assist Everton’s second goal and helped Everton to their first clean sheet in 10 games. Baines has now provided four FPL involvements this season with two goals and two assists in just 13 starts. Between gameweek one and Gameweek 12 (just prior to injury) the Everton defender’s total of 12 attempted assists was bettered by just five defenders and only Kolasinac (5.8) with four, and Azpilicueta (6.9) with five, had created more than Baines’ three big chances. The left-back has averaged 0.3 FPL involvements per game alongside Coleman, putting the pair joint first in this area amongst defenders with a fixture this weekend. Everton travel to Stoke for gameweek 31 and the Toffees will be hoping that the Potters recent goal-scoring woes continue, having only scored three goals in their last six league games at an average of 0.5 goals a game. Our Fix algorithm predicts a 34% chance of a clean sheet for Everton, while there is always the chance of attacking returns with Baines too.

Steve Mounié (CRY)

Mounié (5.8), makes this week’s top five off the back of a significant shortage of forward options. Benteke (7.6) was subbed off early against Chelsea in gameweek 30 for Zaha (6.8), while Wilson (5.9) has under-performed over the last five league games, which could make King (7.0) an option - but having come on from the bench in gameweek 30 he also does not not fill us with optimism. Despite being unable to find the back of the net against Swansea, Mounié, took a total of eight shots, all coming from inside the box, more than any other player in gameweek 30 on both accounts. The Huddersfield forward has registered eight FPL involvements this season with six goals and two assists across his 21 appearances. Four of those involvements have come during the last four gameweeks and only Salah has been involved in more goals during that time amongst players with a gameweek 31 fixture. When compared with forwards who feature in gameweek 31, Mounié, has taken the most shots, with 14, and shots from inside the box, with 12, over the last four gameweeks and only Firmino has produced more shots on target, with six, compared to the Huddersfield striker’s five. Huddersfield will face Crystal Palace in gameweek 31 and will be looking to build on their impressive run which has seen the Terriers win two and draw one of their last four games in the league. The Eagles have conceded 10 goals in their last five league games and Mounié will be looking to replicate his performance against Crystal Palace from the first day of the season, which saw him net a brace.
