Palmer tops the Custom Stats xFPL table for Gameweek 7 with a score of 19.2. The England international took seven shots, five of which were in the box and attempted four assists.
Kulusevski was the weekend's most creative player with nine attempted assists. Three of these were classified as 'big chances' created by Opta and he registered an xFPL score of 11.3.
No player took more shots than Saka, he was also second for attempted assists (eight) and top for 'big chances' created (four) which led to an xFPL score of 11.0.
Salah continues to post great underlying numbers, the Egyptian international took three shots in the box and attempted two assists which made him third for xFPL (11.4).
xFPL is calculated primarily using expected goals (xG), assists (xA), which combine as Fantasy Premier League (FPL) involvements (xG + xA = xI), as well as expected clean sheets (xCS). These numbers are a result of underlying statistics (i.e. shot type and location will give a probability of scoring = xG). xFPL is the combination of these statistics and factors in appearance and bonus points to give an overall expected FPL point score.
As the below image from our Transfer Analytics feature shows, Palmer is the most popular transfer in for Gameweek 7 so far with nearly 500,000 FPL managers bringing him in already.
Mbeumo, Jackson and McNeil all registered attacking FPL returns which sees their popularity continue to rise while a blank did little to diminish FPL managers' interest in Luis Díaz. Meanwhile, João Pedro and Isak missed out entirely which has seen over 500,000 managers sell the duo. Salah has been sold by nearly 150,000 FPL managers despite his goal.
Amongst forwards, nine of the top 10 transfer combinations involve selling João Pedro with Delap, Vardy and Solanke the primary targets. In midfield, the transfers are more scattered with Salah or Saka to Palmer the most popular combination. In defence, Alexander-Arnold is the most sold with Konaté, Gabriel and Gvardiol the beneficiaries.
As the above image from our Opta Player Heatmaps feature shows, Palmer (61) has outscored Saka (38) by 23 points but it is worth mentioning that Palmer's latest score of 25 FPL points is largely responsible for the divide.
As the Stats above show, although Saka and Palmer have had the same number of shots (18) and shots on target (nine), the former has registered just 1.86 'Expected Goals' (xG) compared to the latter's 3.15. This would indicate that the chances Palmer is being afforded are of better quality, although it is worth mentioning that one of these includes a penalty.
In terms of creativity, Saka is marginally ahead for attempted assists (20 vs 17) and 'Expected Assists' (xA) (3.47 vs 3.37) and has notched one more FPL assists (five vs four). He is also ahead for 'big chances' created (nine vs six).
Based on the above numbers, there is not much to split the two, Saka has been unfortunate not to return more FPL points and it could very well be the Arsenal man with the big score the next time around.
