FPL Gameweek 6 Wildcard: Walter Randazzo's Arsenal Defence or Saka Dilemma

Walter Randazzo has activated his Gameweek 6 Wildcard from an impressive position of 23,360 overall — and Arsenal are at the centre of his plans.

Elite FPL manager's rank history

With seven top-10k finishes and a personal best of 1,802nd, Walter has a strong record to go with his promising start to this Fantasy Premier League season. But injuries, doubts over minutes and the balance of his squad have prompted him to make changes.

Following our look at Corey Baker's Gameweek 6 Wildcard picks, Walter offers another elite perspective: fewer locked players, several possible differentials and a decision between triple Arsenal defence or a place for Bukayo Saka.

You can follow Walter's live team in Elite XI: Team Reveal and enable notifications to see how those decisions develop.

Why has Walter activated his Gameweek 6 Wildcard?

Walter's decision reflects concerns across several parts of his squad. In defence, injuries and dissatisfaction with his selections were already creating problems:

“My defence was in a not very good state due to injuries (Rodon), and not very optimal picks (Shaw, O'Shea). I didn't like the goalkeepers anymore.”

Manchester United's performances and the cost of Bruno Fernandes (£11.9m) also weighed on his thinking:

“Midfield was also a bit ropey with two Manchester United players (especially Bruno Fernandes at 12 million), and with the team not playing that well I didn't feel too comfortable, then Cherki who actually saved me last week but might be a minutes problem.”

João Pedro's (£7.7m) injury and Dominic Calvert-Lewin's (£6.0m) upcoming fixtures were further considerations. Walter also wanted to revisit his Arsenal coverage after selling Ben White (£5.5m).

The international break provided a useful opportunity to act:

“Finally I had no free transfers saved, so that's another reason why I resisted and waited until Gameweek 6, so I can relax whatever happens in this extra long international break, which is a bonus.”

Triple Arsenal defence or room for Bukayo Saka?

Walter is clear about the club he wants to target, but the allocation of his Arsenal places remains open:

“I'm surely targeting Arsenal, while I will have to decide between triple defence or double defence plus Saka.”

This is the clearest comparison with Corey. Corey is leaning towards an Arsenal defensive triple-up, with David Raya (£6.1m) among his likely selections. Walter is still weighing that approach against selecting Saka (£9.5m) alongside two defensive picks.

Both managers are targeting Arsenal, but the final structure of their Wildcards could look quite different. It is a decision to follow as they update their teams.

Chelsea, Bournemouth and Fulham are under consideration

Chelsea also feature in Walter's thinking, subject to João Pedro's fitness:

“Then I'll probably add another Chelsea attacker, assuming João Pedro is fit after the break.”

He sees potential in Bournemouth's schedule too:

“Bournemouth's fixtures are pretty good after Gameweek 6, so Tavernier plus possibly Silva in defence could be options.”

Fulham are on his radar, although his interest remains tentative:

“Fulham play the three newly promoted teams next, not sure if I'll go there though.”

How do their attacking fixtures compare?

Fulham rank first, Bournemouth sixth and Chelsea ninth for attacking fixture difficulty across Gameweeks 6–10 in the Fixture Planner, which assesses the opposition’s defensive strength.

Premier League fixtures

Fulham’s opening three fixtures stand out: Ipswich (A), Hull (H) and Coventry (A). Facing all three promoted sides in succession explains their appeal, although Walter remains undecided about investing in their attack.

Bournemouth’s schedule offers opportunities after Gameweek 6, particularly Sunderland (H) in Gameweek 7 and Ipswich (A) in Gameweek 10. A trip to Manchester United in between makes it a mixed run, but there is enough appeal to support Walter’s interest.

Chelsea’s standout attacking fixture is Tottenham Hotspur at home in Gameweek 8. They also host Bournemouth and Manchester United during this five-game stretch, while trips to Everton and Sunderland look less favourable in the planner.

Which players are locked into Walter's Wildcard?

Walter has a smaller group of firm selections than Corey at this stage:

“I think the only locks at this stage are Haaland, Pascal Groß and João Pedro if fit, the rest is pretty much to be decided at the moment and I'll look again as we move closer to the end of this break.”

Haaland, Groß and João Pedro also feature in Corey's core selections, with fitness an important condition for the Chelsea forward in both sets of notes.

Beyond that shared core, Walter has left himself plenty of room to respond to developments before the deadline. His current shortlist should therefore be treated as a work in progress.

Why Walter is considering leaving out Bruno Fernandes

Walter recognises that omitting Bruno Fernandes carries a risk:

“The biggest risk is probably leaving Bruno Fernandes out, he's still a good pick on paper and can absolutely bounce back against Tottenham Hotspur at home, but with 4 blanks in 5 and a 12 million price to pay you have to make choices.”

Liverpool's fixtures and performances are another reason he is looking elsewhere:

“I won't get Dominik Szoboszlai or Liverpool players in general either, due to bad fixtures and mixed performances.”

Despite considering lower-owned options, Walter does not feel his current position requires him to chase differentials:

“I had a good start so I don't really need to go for differentials at the moment”

There are nevertheless some less popular names on his radar:

“Tavernier is also relatively low owned, and Barnes too, while Kostoulas from Brighton is another interesting name.”

That is a useful part of his approach for anyone assessing their own Gameweek 6 Wildcard. Ranked 23,360, Walter can focus on the squad he prefers without feeling obliged to make selections simply to be different.
