Best Premium FPL Midfielders: £7.0m–£12.0m

Choosing the best premium FPL midfielders can make or break your Fantasy Premier League season. These players offer reliable minutes, explosive attacking returns and strong captaincy potential.

While few premium midfielders are likely to earn many Defensive Contribution Points (DEFCON), they provide several other routes to points through goals, assists, penalties, free-kicks and corners. Many are also key players for their clubs, making them more secure for minutes.

Following our guide to the best budget FPL midfielders, this article analyses the top midfielders priced from £7.0m to £12.0m. We assess their goal threat, creativity, opening fixtures and predicted points to identify the best options for your 2026/27 FPL squad.

Best Premium FPL Midfielders: Expected Points Analysis

There are currently 18 FPL midfielders priced at £7.0m or above for the 2026/27 season. Last season’s underlying numbers provide a useful starting point for identifying the best premium FPL midfielders.

As the data below from our Opta Stats Sandbox shows, Bruno Fernandes recorded the highest Expected FPL Points (xFPL) total among these players. The Manchester United midfielder leads the premium options with an impressive xFPL score of 236.87.

Expected FPL Stats for Premium Midfielders

Enzo Fernández ranks second with 179.96 xFPL. The Argentina international has risen to £7.0m in FPL, although his availability for Gameweek 1 remains uncertain following his involvement in the World Cup final.

Antoine Semenyo is close behind with 177.56 xFPL after an outstanding campaign featuring 17 goals and six assists. The Ghana international has continued to impress during pre-season under new manager Enzo Maresca and is already selected by more than 20% of FPL managers.

These statistics place Fernandes, Fernández and Semenyo firmly among the best FPL midfielders to consider ahead of Gameweek 1.

What is xFPL?

xFPL is calculated primarily using expected goals (xG) and expected assists (xA), which combine to form expected FPL involvements (xG + xA = xI), along with expected clean sheets (xCS). These values are based on underlying statistics — for example, shot type and location determine the probability of scoring, which contributes to xG. xFPL then combines these metrics, factoring in appearance and bonus points to produce an overall expected FPL point score.

Which Premium FPL Midfielders Offered the Most Goal Threat?

Goal threat is an important factor when comparing the best premium FPL midfielders for the 2026/27 season.

Antoine Semenyo led this group for both shots inside the box (61) and goals scored (17). As the data below from our Opta Stats Sandbox shows, only Bruno Fernandes (12.98), Bryan Mbeumo (12.87) and Morgan Gibbs-White (12.47) recorded a higher Expected Goals (xG) total than Semenyo’s 12.41.

Expected Goals Stats for Premium Midfielders

No premium midfielder received more big chances than Mbeumo last season. Manchester United also have the two easiest opening fixtures, making a midfield double-up with Mbeumo and Fernandes an appealing FPL strategy.

Gibbs-White scored 15 goals from open play, although his role under new manager Oliver Glasner remains uncertain. The same applies to Morgan Rogers, who ranked third among these midfielders for shots on target with 32.

Fixture Difficulty Ratings for Gameweek 1-5 Fantasy Premier League 2026/27

As the data from our Fixture Difficulty Ratings shows, Nottingham Forest rank first and Manchester City fourth for home attacking fixtures across the opening five Gameweeks. Gibbs-White and Semenyo could therefore still be among the best premium FPL midfielders to consider despite the uncertainty surrounding their roles.

Dominik Szoboszlai is currently selected by almost half of FPL managers (47%). However, while he ranked 10th for total shots with 71, only 19 were taken from inside the penalty area. His five big chances were also the second-lowest total, with only Rayan Cherki recording fewer.

Liverpool rank sixth for attacking fixture difficulty across the opening five Gameweeks, but Szoboszlai may need to improve his penalty-area threat to justify his high ownership.

Which Premium FPL Midfielders Created the Most Chances?

Creativity is another key factor when identifying the best premium FPL midfielders for the 2026/27 season.

Bruno Fernandes dominated the creative statistics after a record-breaking campaign in which the Portugal international registered an incredible 24 FPL assists. As the data below from our Opta Stats Sandbox shows, he also led these midfielders for attempted assists (136) and big chances created (33).

Creativity Stats for Premium Midfielders

Dominik Szoboszlai ranked second for attempted assists with 78, although he finished the season with only seven FPL assists. Jérémy Doku and Morgan Rogers both recorded eight, while Declan Rice managed nine, Bukayo Saka 10, Rayan Cherki 13 and Fernandes 24.

Manchester City Predicted Lineups Gameweek 1

Cherki’s return of 13 FPL assists from just 1,786 minutes was particularly impressive. However, as the above below from our Predicted Lineups feature shows, the France international is currently considered a doubt for Gameweek 1 following his involvement at the World Cup. His availability will need to be monitored before including him in an opening FPL squad.

Which Premium Midfielders Are Projected to Score the Most FPL Points?

FPL's most expensive Midfielder Bruno Fernandes tops the Player Points Projections (26.9) with the Portuguese international top for both xG (12.98) and 'Expected Assists' (xA) (17.04).

Points Projections for Premium Midfielders

Palmer (24.3) is in second, the 24-year-old scored 10 goals last season in a campaign that was disrupted by injury but he could thrive under new manager Xabi Alonso after having the Summer off.

Gibbs-White (23.4) is expected to continue his rise under new manager Oliver Glasner while it is interesting to see Florian Wirtz (22.7) ahead of the more popular Dominic Szoboszlai (21.7).

Mbeumo (20.7) is in eighth for the five Gameweek period but second for the first two Gameweeks (10.0) so a short-term punt on the Cameroon international looks great.

Final Thoughts: The Best Premium FPL Midfielders for Gameweek 1

There remains a lot of uncertainty on several midfielders in this bracket, either due to managerial changes or late arrival from the World Cup. Bruno Guimarães' move to Arsenal and Eli Kroupi.Jr's injury has further mudded the waters.

Most of the players from the last four remaining teams in the World Cup - France, England, Argentina and Spain are expected to join up late with their respective sides and have missed most of preseason. It remains to be seen whether they will make the Gameweek 1 starting lineup and also how sharp they will be early doors.

Keeping this in mind, preference should be given to players who have played most of preseason and are also likely to be in a similar role as last year.

This puts Bruno Fernandes and Bryan Mbeumo at the top of the list while players such as Bukayo Saka, Declan Rice, Rayan Cherki, Morgan Rogers, Enzo Fernandez and Marcus Rashford are perhaps buys for a later date.

Morgan Gibbs-White and Antoine Semenyo also look like appealing options given their fixtures and the fact they have had a full preseason to work under their new managers.
