Wain's Wonders - GW30

18 March 2015

Hello again!

I started the week with great hope, dreaming that this was the week I broke the top 10 barrier. How wrong I was! I ended the week with a total of 27 points and a GW rank below 3 million, my worst of the season. In a game week like this it is hard to find any positives and a lot of people on Twitter and on the forums are very disheartened. I guess for myself two positives are that I managed to stay 13th in the world and managed to reduce the lead between me and the World number one by 4 points.

However, in what was the lowest scoring week of the season for my team this season, I lost points to 41 of the top 50. I have to remain upbeat and take note of one guy who managed to jump from 15th to 2nd with the great captaincy decision of Olivier Giroud. That shows that the gap to first can be breached and any of the top 50 are still in with a chance of winning the overall competition.

Moving away from the league tables to my actual team, it was good to claim another WBA clean sheet and it would have been two albeit for the unfortunate Ben Foster injury four minutes before the 4 points came in. The advantage of having Myhill in reserve means I won’t need to make a knee-jerk reaction (Excuse the pun) after the news that he may miss a month of FPL action.

A huge disappointment was Wenger’s benching of Bellerin, hopefully this was just a rest before the crunch Champions League game against Monaco on Tuesday. Chambers didn’t look great against the Hammers so a reinstatement of Bellerin looks likely.

Other than the points above I can’t really be too critical of my decisions. On paper my team was strong but it was one of those weeks where it didn't deliver (fortunately not many did). Captaining Aguero looked a good call and was followed by 84% of the top 50. In fact, only those who captained Giroud gained any ground in the top echelons.

Moving onto next week, I have 2 FT’s and £1.0m in the bank so will be having a close look at the fixtures, stats and transfer options. Chelsea, Southampton and Arsenal appear to have strong fixtures and with the recent announcement of double GW’s for Villa & QPR in GW31, it may be time to reintroduce Giroud or have a second look at Christian Benteke.

Until next week, I will be happy to muse any transfer/selection decisions you may have @jawain04.  Goodnight!
