Five top-10k finishes. A best finish of 291st in 2021. Now Tom Dollimore is playing his Gameweek 7 Wildcard.
For Fantasy Premier League managers considering the same move, his approach offers plenty to think about:
Manchester City’s appealing fixture, a future captaincy option and the difficult balance between keeping value and chasing immediate points.
We spoke to Tom about why he is making the move, which players he is building around and the decisions still shaping his squad.
This Wildcard has been on Tom’s radar since the start of the season.
“I built my team from Gameweek 1 with Wildcard in Gameweek 7 loosely pencilled in.”
As Gameweek 7 approached, he became increasingly convinced that this was the right moment. Crucially, he now feels confident enough about the players he wants as the long-term core of his team.
“When wildcarding this early I am always planning around having a robust long term team.”
His selections reflect that balance: strong fixtures now, backed by players he expects to keep.
Manchester City’s home match against Ipswich is the main fixture Tom is targeting.
Erling Haaland (£15.6m) is locked into his Wildcard, while Rayan Cherki (£7.9m) is also under consideration.
Brighton’s home fixture against Crystal Palace also interests Tom.
Their appeal extends beyond Gameweek 7, with Tom viewing their players as good long-term options. That makes them a natural fit for the durable squad he wants to build.
Tottenham’s fixture swing, which put them top of the Fixture Planner for the next five Gameweeks, beginning with Coventry at home in Gameweek 7, has caught his attention.

However, Tom still sees Spurs as unproven and risky, leaving him uncertain about how heavily to invest.
A favourable schedule can put players on the shortlist. For Tom, it does not automatically make them essential.
Alongside Haaland, Tom has identified several players he wants to build around:
Saka’s appeal includes Gameweek 10, when Arsenal host Hull. Tom currently considers him the best captain for that fixture.
It is a useful detail for managers weighing up premium combinations. His Wildcard planning already accounts for where the armband could go several weeks down the line.
These players provide the foundation, but the remaining places will determine how the whole squad fits together.

The biggest dilemma involves two players Tom already owns: João Pedro (£7.8m) and Morgan Rogers (£7.9m).
He has built value in both and still considers them good long-term options. However, he believes there are better alternatives for the short term.
That creates a familiar Wildcard problem: should you keep players you still rate, or use the opportunity to target a more appealing immediate run?
For Tom, this remains unresolved. Their places are among the most interesting parts of his draft to monitor as the deadline approaches.
Tom’s plan has a clear foundation: Haaland for City’s immediate opportunity, Saka with future captaincy in mind, and value picks to support the squad.
The remaining decisions could still change its shape:
Does Cherki make the cut?
How much does Tom commit to Spurs?
And do João Pedro and Rogers survive?
