It feels like Salah has had a quiet start to the season by his elite-level standards, but he still has five goal involvements to his name, in six gameweeks. The Egyptian international is ranked joint-10th amongst midfielders for goals (two), joint-fourth for shots (17), joint-third for shots in the box (SiB) (14), joint-second for 'big chances' (four) and a lowly joint-11th for shots on target (SoT) (five), a way off where he would want to be. As the below image from our Match Stats feature shows, he is still one of the most attacking outlets in a strong team and could significantly benefit from the return of Matip and Thiago this weekend. Liverpool will be looking to bounce back immediately after a dismal European display at the hands of Napoli where they lost 4-1. Encouragement can be taken from the fact that Liverpool lead some key attacking metrics in the league - SoT (39), SiB (93), and total shots (117). Their visitors Wolves have kept three clean sheets so far this season, but these have come against two promoted sides (Bournemouth and Fulham) and a notoriously up and down Southampton side. These are three fixtures that will have inflated their defensive numbers somewhat, having only shipped in four goals in total, the best in the league. Leeds, Newcastle, and Spurs are the other three teams the Midlands’ side have faced, so Liverpool will be a much sterner test. Our Fix Algorithm currently projects a point score of 6.7 for Salah.
Haaland has taken the Premier League by storm, scoring goals almost effortlessly. A joy to watch. The Norwegian international has found the back of the net 10 times this season in just six games and no forward or midfielder comes close to this number, with Mitrović (six) and Toney (five) the next two in the goals pecking order. As the Stats Sandbox image below shows, his total of 25 shots is only bettered by Mitrović (27), while he leads the race by a country mile for 'big chances’ (14), landing as many as the entire Newcastle team and a higher number than 12 other clubs’ totals. Man. City have scored 20 goals in their first six matches and no team can beat that figure, with Brentford and Liverpool coming in joint-second (15 each). The Manchester club are also ranked first for expected goals (xG) with 14.47, 18.2% higher than Arsenal in second (12.24). Their visitors Spurs have only conceded five goals so far and have kept two clean sheets but are ranked eighth-worst for shots conceded (86), Fulham, Leicester and Aston Villa are just a few clubs that have conceded less shots. Our Fix Algorithm currently projects a point score of 6.2 for Haaland.
Jesus will be looking to get back to scoring ways after a frustrating afternoon away to Man. United last Sunday which saw him only manage an xG figure of 0.06. However, the Brazilian international still features very high in the metrics’ tables amongst forwards. Ranking fourth for xG (3.25), joint-third for ‘big chances’ created (three), and join-first for attempted assists with his North London rival, Kane (both 13). As the below image shows from our Player Heatmaps feature, the Arsenal forward is very heavily involved in the final-third, but importantly is taking a lot of touches right in front of goal, which is clear to see when compared to Kane. Arsenal have sharpened up in front of goal this season, only trailing Liverpool (15), Brentford (15) and Man. City (20) for goals scored (14). Liverpool are the only side to have a higher number of shots (117) than Arsenal’s 103. Their visitors Everton have not started the season well aside from last week's 0-0 draw to Liverpool at Goodison. The Toffees have conceded the second-highest number of SiB (72), a position Jesus keeps finding himself in. Our Fix Algorithm currently projects a point score of 5.6 for Jesus.
