Sterling (8.8), currently looks to be the pick of the bunch amongst the Man. City midfielders having played 90 minutes in each of the last eight gameweeks. He is now Man. City’s leading goal scorer for the season and continues to impress with his link up play and positioning inside the box. Gameweek 20 saw Raheem score his 13th league goal of the season taking him one ahead of Agüero (11.6), and his 20 Fantasy Premier League (FPL) involvements this season (13 goals, seven assists) is more than Kane (12.9) who has 19. Over the last four gameweeks the Man. City midfielder has contributed to seven goals, scoring four times as well as laying on another three assists. Sterling has fired six shots on target over the same period and only Salah (10.1) has had more amongst midfielders, with seven. The England international has also been involved in six big chances over the last four gameweeks which is joint first with Kane. Man. City play Crystal Palace away first in gameweek 21 and the Eagles have conceded 15 times in six encounters against “top six” opponents so far this season. In gameweek 22 Man. City host a Watford side on the slide. The Hornets have won once in their last seven games conceding an average of two goals a game during that period. Our Fix algorithm predicts a score of 11.9 points for Sterling across the two weeks which looks more than achievable given that it also predicts Man. City will score 6.70 goals.
Firmino (8.9) lands himself a spot in this week’s top five off the back of fine displays in recent weeks. The Brazilian has nailed four double point hauls in the last six gameweeks, with Liverpool scoring 18 goals in that time. Firmino has become the second highest scoring forward in the game and now has 14 FPL involvements to his name this season (nine goals, five assists). Only five players have managed more this season – De Bruyne (10.4), Agüero, Kane, Sterling and Salah who have been involved with 15, 16, 19, 20 and 22 respectively. When compared with other forwards over the last four gameweeks Firmino’s 11 efforts from inside the box is behind only Kane and Agüero who have managed 17 and 18, and only Lukaku (11.4) has produced more than Firmino’s six attempted assists, with seven. Leicester are first up for Liverpool in gameweek 21. The Foxes have conceded 10 goals in their last five league games and with Liverpool scoring at will it is hardly a surprise to see our Fix algorithm predicting 2.43 goals for the reds in this one. With the Liverpool forward’s goal involvement at 44% over the last six gameweeks we expect attacking returns here. In gameweek 22 Firmino and co. will travel to Burnley. Although the Clarets have been resolute at home this year, when facing two “top six” sides - Arsenal and Tottenham - they lost both and conceded four goals, so the outlook looks good with our Fix algorithm predicting a score of 9.5 points over the next two for Firmino.
Kane (12.9) looks set to rise in price before a gameweek where he has no game – that just about says all you need to know about the forward at this moment in time. The cries of “Kane out” and even a comparison to Brexit rang around the FPL community given the seismic nature of what was being suggested. Two hat tricks in his last two gameweeks has firmly shut down any debate. Kane is a season keeper. Kane is now 25 points clear of any other forward in the game having amassed 131 points at an average 6.9 points per game. Kane has had more shots, with 116, shots inside the box, with 72, and shots on target, with 44, than any other Premier League player this season and he is also ranked first for big chances having notched up 21 so far. Over the last four gameweeks his total of 13 shots on target is almost double that of any other player while his six big chances can only be matched by our other top five pick, Sterling. While Tottenham have no game in gameweek 21, Kane, is a must have for double gameweek 22 providing many with an essential captain pick. There is even a strong argument to use the Triple Captain chip on Kane for double gameweek 22, with Tottenham facing two of the most porous defences in the league. Swansea have conceded 12 goals in their last four games against “top six” opponents while West Ham have conceded six goals in their last two games against opponents that have been struggling to score - Newcastle and Bournemouth. Our Fix algorithm predicts a score of 13.1 points for Kane over the next two gameweeks, which ranks him first of all players (even with the blank).
On current form, Son (8.0), looks to be the next best thing for double gameweek 22 with four goals and four assists in his last six gameweeks. A handsome price-tag and starts in each of those last six fixtures also compels his selection. The South Korean has landed seven shots on target during that time which puts him level with Firmino, De Bruyne and Agüero. The Spurs midfielder has also had five big chances in the last six gameweeks and that again puts him in good company, only Sterling and Salah have managed to top that by one amongst midfielders. Tottenham do not have a game in gameweek 21, but our Fix algorithm still projects a score of 8.5 points for Son in gameweek 22. As referenced in our piece on Kane, Swansea and West Ham have been far from tight at the back this season and Spurs will look to exploit that having netted 16 times in their last five gameweeks.
Alonso (7.1) has risen in price a couple of times in recent weeks off the back of two notable displays which has seen the Spanish left-back score and keep a clean sheet in both fixtures, accumulating a whopping score of 14 points on both occasions. Alonso now has five goals and one assist this season, making him the highest point scoring defender with 110 points. Three of his FPL involvements have come during the last four gameweeks (two goals, one assist) and the Chelsea defender has also kept three clean sheets during that period against Southampton, Everton and Brighton. Alonso’s 15 shots on target this season is six more than any other defender and only Cresswell (5.1), with 23, Trippier (5.4), with 26, and Davies (5.5), with 28, have produced more than his 21 attempted assists. Over the last four gameweeks his seven shots on target is level with Salah and Agüero to hammer home his impact from defence. Chelsea host Stoke in gameweek 21 which will be music to Alonso owner’s ears given that Stoke have only scored eight goals in their last eight league games, with Chelsea looking tight at the back this should be clean sheet points as a minimum. In gameweek 22 Chelsea travel to Arsenal and have kept three clean sheets against the Gunners in their last six encounters. They have also only conceded two goals in four games versus other “top six” opponents this season. Chelsea are predicted to keep 0.82 clean sheets in the next two games, ranking them fourth best and our Fix algorithm predicts 10.2 points for Alonso.
