The end of last season already feels like a distant memory, and now our attention turns to the big question: when will FPL 2025/26 launch?
With pre-season friendlies on the horizon, it's nearly time for the annual guessing game — when will Fantasy Premier League (FPL) reopen for the 2025/26 campaign?
But why guess when we’ve gathered everything you need to know in one handy article?
The full 2025/26 fixture list has now been announced, Tuesday 18 June — a huge moment that officially kicks off the FPL buzz, as managers begin planning which teams to target players from for their Gameweek 1 squads.
Leeds United and Burnley earned automatic promotion from the Championship and will compete in the 2025/26 Premier League.
They’re joined by Sunderland, who clinched the final spot in the top flight with a 2-1 victory over Sheffield United in the Championship play-off final.
At the other end of the table, Southampton, Leicester City, and Ipswich Town were relegated after the 2024/25 season.
The Premier League action begins on Friday 15 August 2025, giving managers just under two months from the fixture drop to Gameweek 1.
The exact date and time at which individual matches are played during each weekend will be determined at regular intervals throughout the season, based on TV selections made by broadcasters.
This season includes the usual international breaks in September, October, November, and March, plus the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) between late December and mid-January.
The FA Cup fifth round will again be held on a weekend, reducing the likelihood of chaotic Double or Blank Gameweeks — a trend continuing from the 2024/25 season. Overall, the campaign includes 33 weekend rounds and five midweek ones, wrapping up with Gameweek 38 on Sunday 24 May 2026.
There’s never an official word from FPL HQ — they like to keep the suspense going — but if history tells us anything, we should see player prices teased on social media first, before the game goes live shortly after.
Here’s a look at when FPL has launched in previous years:
Season | Launch Date | Days Before Gameweek 1 |
---|---|---|
2016/17 | 19th July 2016 | 25 |
2017/18 | 12th July 2017 | 30 |
2018/19 | 5th July 2018 | 36 |
2019/20 | 27th June 2019 | 43 |
2020/21 | 15th August 2020 | 28 |
2021/22 | 23rd June 2021 | 51 |
2022/23 | 5th July 2022 | 31 |
2023/24 | 5th July 2023 | 37 |
2024/25 | 17th July 2024 | 30 |
Note: The 2020/21 season was delayed due to the pandemic.
Excluding the unusual 2020/21 season, FPL typically launches about 35 days before the new campaign begins. That puts the likely launch window around Friday 11 to 18 July 2025.
