xFPL is calculated primarily using expected goals (xG), assists (xA), which combine as Fantasy Premier League (FPL) involvements (xG + xA = xI), and expected clean sheets (xC). These numbers are a result of underlying statistics (i.e. shot type and location gives a probability of scoring = xG). xFPL is the combination of these statistics and factors in appearance and bonus points to give an overall expected FPL point score.
Alexander-Arnold tops the Custom Stats table for gameweek 12 for xFPL with a score of 12.8. The right-back attempted four assists, two of which were ‘big chances’ and also took two shots in the box (SiB).
Cancelo comes in second with an xFPL score of 9.6, the Portugal international created two chances and took one shot. Another wingback Ait-Nouri also posted impressive numbers, the 20-year-old created four chances, the most of any Wolves player, notching an xFPL score of 9.2.
In terms of creativity, Dallas, Ward-Prowse and Shelvey top the table with five chances created apiece. It is worth mentioning that none of these attempted assists were classified as ‘big chances’, which explains their low xFPL scores of 5.0, 3.7 and 2.8 respectively.
Chilwell's numbers are also worth mentioning, the left-back created three chances and took two SiB. R. James attempted one fewer assist (two) and registered no SiB.
Budget forwards dominate the shooting metrics with Benteke, King and C. Wilson registering five SiB each. They also managed two shots on target (SoT), but Benteke and King registered two ‘big chances’ to C. Wilson’s one. It is interesting to note that Saint-Maximin and Joelinton also registered four SiB which indicates that the Magpies have adopted a more attacking approach under their new manager.
Owners of C. Wilson can consider themselves unlucky, no player had a greater Expected Goals (xG) underperformance (0.6) than the Newcastle striker. Kane's backers were also unfortunate not to see any returns, the forward took three SiB and had an xG underperformance of 0.5, the second-highest of the gameweek.
