FPL Gameweek 8 Stats: Which Players Impressed?

Dango Ouattara eclipses Kevin Schade

Dango Ouattara tops the Custom Stats xFPL table for Gameweek 8 with a score of 11.4. The Burkina Faso international took three shots in the box, two of which were deemed big chances by Opta and also attempted three assists.

Meanwhile, the more popular Kevin Schade had just one shot in the box and notched an xFPL score of just 3.0.

Stats for Gameweek 8

Marcus Tavernier and Rayan find the back of the net

Bournemouth duo Tavernier and Rayan both scored against Manchester United on Sunday and their stats make for interesting reading. The Brazilian was top for shots in the box (five) and was afforded more big chances (four) than any other player this Gameweek. He registered an xFPL score of 7.5.

Tavernier had just the one attempt in the box, which was also classified as a big chance but he also created two big chances which meant a higher xFPL score of 9.6.

Nicolas Jackson thriving under Unai Emery

Nicolas Jackson scored twice against Manchester City making it four goals this season for the Senegal international. He took three shots, two of which were classified as big chances and notched an xFPL score of 9.7.

Joško Gvardiol's owners were unlucky

Gvardiol's FPL owners walked away from Gameweek 8 with just 1 FPL point but the underlying numbers indicate that they were very unlucky. The Croatian international had three attempts in the box, two of which were classified as big chances and he also attempted two assists. His xFPL score of 8.5 is the highest of any player not to return this weekend.

What is xFPL?

The expected FPL points (xFPL) model estimates how many points a player’s performance was likely to produce. The calculation uses underlying data including expected goals, expected assists, expected clean sheets, appearance points and projected bonus points.

It is best used to assess the quality of a player’s performance rather than simply looking at his final FPL score.

FPL Gameweek 9 Transfer Trends: Who Are Managers Buying and Selling?

Marcus Tavernier and Alexander Isak have scored in consecutive weeks and are popular transfers in.

Ezri Konsa also scored his first Arsenal goal and despite the Gunners' next fixture against Liverpool, the England international has been brought in by over 100,000 FPL managers.

Evanilson is also on the radar after scoring in three consecutive games, he has been brought in by over 100,000 FPL managers.

At the other end of the market, João Pedro is understandably the most sold player after the Brazilian international was left out of the Chelsea squad against Spurs. With no clear timeline yet on his return, over 200,000 FPL managers have parted ways.

The Arsenal duo of Riccardo Calafiori and Bukayo Saka are also being sold along with Bruno Fernandes who was an unused substitute.

Most-popular FPL forward transfers

Nicolas Jackson is at the top of FPL managers' shopping list this week with the Senegal international occupying 7 of the top 10 forward transfer combinations.

Isak and Evanilson are the other two popular forwards with Gonzalo Garcia, Thierno Barry, Yoane Wissa and Dominic Calvert-Lewin making way.

Most-popular FPL midfielder transfers

Tavernier and Manzambi are the most popular midfield transfer targets and it is surprising to see Saka to Palmer in the top 10 as well.

It is worth mentioning that Cole Palmer is available for Gameweek 9 despite his red card against Spurs as the Chelsea midfielder will serve his suspension midweek in the Carabao Cup.

The Arsenal duo of Martin Ødegaard and Saka are the most sold midfielders along with Morgan Gibbs-White, Rayan Cherki, Josh King and Bruno Fernandes.

Most-popular FPL defender transfers

Ezri Konsa is the most popular defender transfer in after his goal against Everton while the centre-back trio of Tarik Muharemović, Gabriel and Jan Paul van Hecke are also popular after delivering FPL returns and Bonus Points in Gameweek 8.

Gvardiol is the most sold defender along with Calafiori, the duo feature in seven of the top 10 defender transfer combinations. Lewis Hall, Leif Davis and Vitalii Mykolenko are some of the other defenders being sold.

Cherry-Picking: Evanilson vs Tavernier vs Rayan

The Bournemouth trio of Evanilson, Tavernier and Rayan all found the back of the net against Manchester United and are popular acquisitions this week. Their numbers over the first 8 Gameweeks are compared using the Fix Comparison Matrix feature as shown below.

Player comparison Evanilson vs Tavernier vs Rayan

Rayan the shot monster

Rayan tops the comparison for shots inside the box (19) and big chances (nine) but his goal at Old Trafford was his first of the season. He has been wasteful with his finishing and that is reflected in his BPS tally of just 91.

Evanilson the differential

FPL managers searching for a forward differential should consider Evanilson, the 27-year-old has four FPL assists this season which is top amongst forwards.

He has also attempted more shots in the box (17 vs 11) than Tavernier and has been afforded more big chances (seven vs five)

Tavernier the standout

Tavernier's numbers make for interesting reading. He has been awarded 12 FPL Bonus Points this season which is more than any other FPL midfielder and reflected his huge BPS tally of 231.

Even though his shot volume (11) and big chances (five) are the lowest in the comparison, he has landed the highest number of shots on target (11) which is a testament to his shooting ability.

He is also the most creative of the trio with his 15 attempted assists more than the other two combined (13). He is also top for big chances created (five) but strangely does not have a single FPL assist.
