FPL Gameweek 5 Captain Picks

Erling Haaland (SUN)—Highest-Projected Score

Erling Haaland has scored four goals in as many matches this season. The 26-year-old leads all players for shots (16), shots on target (nine), shots in the box (15), big chances (seven) and expected goals (xG), with 3.57.

No forward scored more FPL points in home matches last season than the Norwegian international (120).

Manchester City rank third for goals scored this season (eight). The Cityzens also rank second for big chances (14) and fourth for xG (8.17).

Their visitors, Sunderland, ranked 11th for goals conceded in away games last season (28) and kept only four clean sheets on their travels. The Black Cats also ranked 18th for shots conceded away from home (316) and 14th for expected goals conceded (xGC), with 34.10.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin (CRY)—The High-Ownership Alternative

Dominic Calvert-Lewin has found the back of the net twice this season and has perhaps been unlucky not to score more. The 29-year-old ranks third among forwards for shots on target (five), while only Haaland (seven) has had more big chances than his five.

Leeds were ranked 10th for goals scored in home matches last season (29). The Yorkshire side were a formidable outfit at Elland Road and were ranked seventh for big chances (51) and ninth for xG, with 33.80 in home matches.

Their visitors, Crystal Palace, are ranked 20th for goals conceded (11) and are yet to keep a clean sheet. The Eagles are also ranked bottom for shots in the box conceded (71) and xGC, with 9.35.

Morgan Gibbs-White (COV)—The Differential Captain

Morgan Gibbs-White could have had a much bigger FPL haul against Aston Villa, no player has created more chances in a single match this season than his six against the Midlands side.

The 26-year-old is also top for big chances created (four) and is ranked third for 'Expected Assists' (xA) (1.57). He is also Nottingham Forest's primary goal threat with none of their players attempting more shots than his 10.

Nottingham Forest rank 15th for goals scored (four), but their underlying numbers are offer reasons to be optimistic. The Nottingham side are ranked seventh for big chances (12) and 10th for expected goals (xG), with 7.04.

Their visitors, Coventry City, are ranked 18th for goals conceded, with only Crystal Palace (11) conceding more. The promoted side rank 17th for shots conceded (63) and 13th for xGC, with 7.48.
