Expected FPL Points Review - A look at the stats

As shown in the image below, Palmer leads the Custom Stats xFPL table for Gameweek 35 with a score of 13.8. The England international took four shots inside the box, including two Opta-defined 'big chances'. He also created four chances, one of which was a 'big chance'.

Enciso led the way for shots with six attempts, but only three came from inside the penalty area, and none were classified as 'big chances'. As a result, the 21-year-old managed a modest xFPL score of just 6.5.

Schade was the top FPL scorer of the Gameweek with 14 points. The 23-year-old took four shots inside the box, three of which were deemed 'big chances', and hit the target three times. His xFPL score of 11.6 was second only to Palmer’s 13.8.

Mbeumo was a popular captaincy pick but delivered a disappointing performance. He managed just one shot in the box and created only one chance, resulting in a low xFPL score of 2.7.

No player created more chances than Garnacho, who attempted five assists. The Argentine also scored from one of his two shots, earning an xFPL score of 7.6.

Bowen rewarded his backers with nine FPL points and was unlucky not to get more. The England international took three shots in the box, two of which were classified as 'big chances', and posted an xFPL score of 8.8.

What is xFPL?

xFPL is calculated primarily using expected goals (xG), assists (xA), which combine as Fantasy Premier League (FPL) involvements (xG + xA = xI), as well as expected clean sheets (xCS). These numbers are a result of underlying statistics (i.e. shot type and location will give a probability of scoring = xG). xFPL is the combination of these statistics and factors in appearance and bonus points to give an overall expected FPL point score.

Early FPL Transfer Activity Analysed - Which players are FPL managers buying and selling?

As shown in the below image from our Transfer Analytics feature, De Bruyne is currently the most transferred in player with nearly 150,000 FPL managers bringing him in at the time of writing.

Gvardiol's clean sheet and two FPL bonus points took him to the top three in the defender rankings, the Croation international has been transferred in by over 100,000 FPL managers.

The Brentford duo of Mbeumo and Wissa remain popular after returning against Man United, they face relegated Ipswich next which has seen the duo backed collectively by nearly 200,000 FPL managers.

Cunha was unlucky not to notch any FPL returns against Man City and is the fifth most transferred in player.

Saka and Salah both blanked and are now being sold in large numbers, as FPL managers turn to differentials for the run-in. J. Murphy, Luis Díaz, and Strand Larsen are also being offloaded in droves after disappointing performances.

As the below image from the Top 10 Forward transfer combinations shows, selling Mateta for Wissa is the most popular transfer combination across all positions (16.2%). Selling the Frenchman for one of Wood or Cunha also appears to be popular with Isak, Marmoush, and Strand Larsen some of the other forwards making way.

Top 10 Forward FPL transfer combinations

The Top 10 Midfield transfer combinations are dominated by De Bruyne and Mbeumo transfers in with the duo accounting for eight of the top 10. Saka, J. Murphy, Luis Díaz, Savinho and Merino are the midfielders being sold.

The Top 10 Defender transfer combinations are well spread out with no combination accounting for more than 3.6%. Gvardiol and Aït-Nouri are the most popular picks, with Muñoz, Saliba and J. Timber being sold in large numbers.

Best Midfield Differential - De Bruyne vs Bowen

De Bruyne and Bowen both found the back of the net in Gameweek 35 and with low ownership, both look like intriguing differentials for the run in.

Points Comparison De Bruyne vs Bowen

As the above image from our Player Heatmaps feature shows, both players have started every game over the last five Gameweeks with Bowen (37) scoring six FPL points more than De Bruyne (31).

Stats Comparison De Bruyne vs Bowen

Bowen has scored three goals compared to De Bruyne’s two and also leads on Expected Goals (xG), with 1.92 versus 1.61. Both players are level for shot volume, with 12 total attempts and five on target each, but Bowen edges it for shots inside the box (10 vs 7).

In terms of creativity, De Bruyne comes out on top. While Bowen has two FPL assists to De Bruyne’s one, the Belgian has created more chances (10 vs 5) and more 'big chances' (3 vs 2).

Both are strong options, but De Bruyne’s fixture against Southampton next weekend could make him the more appealing captaincy pick.
