FPL Gameweek 4: Best Wildcard Team Revealed

Three Gameweeks into the 2025/26 Fantasy Premier League season and some of the biggest names – including Watkins, Wirtz, and even Salah – have struggled to deliver consistent returns.

With the first international break upon us, many managers are considering whether this is the perfect time to hit the FPL Wildcard button.

In this article, we’ve used the powerful Assistant Manager tool to build the best Wildcard team for Gameweek 4, designed to maximise points potential and give FPL managers a huge boost up the rankings.

As shown in the image above, managers can easily lock in or exclude players such as Salah and Haaland, while adjusting the rest of the squad around them.

Once your criteria are set, the Assistant Manager generates an optimised FPL team designed to maximise points.

Defence - DEFCON Monsters From Good Defences

Centre-backs are the biggest winners from the new Defensive Contribution (DEFCON) points, the Algorithm includes five in the squad - Senesi, Lacroix, Richards, Rodon and Andersen with all of them racking up DEFCON points at least once this season.

As the above image from our Stats Sandbox feature shows, the aforementioned five defenders rank in the top 11 for DEFCONs this season, which illustrates their multiple routes to points, while at the same time keeping the spend at a maximum of £5m per defender.

Spend on the Goalkeeper position is kept at a minimum with Petrovic coming in at just £4.5m, while Dubravka offers great value as a backup at just £4m.

Midfield - Salah remains with Mid-Priced Gems

Although Salah’s numbers have been underwhelming so far, he remains in the Wildcard squad.

Liverpool’s next two fixtures against Burnley and Everton make him the standout captaincy option, as highlighted in the Assistant Manager’s Optimal Player Rotation Strategy (see image below).

Grealish has racked up more FPL assists (four) than any other player in the league thus far and the England international's 'Expected Assists' (xA) tally of 1.55 is only bettered by Brooks (1.93).

Meanwhile, his team-mate Dewsbury-Hall has created eight chances with only Mbeumo (nine), Stach (10) and B. Fernandes (12) faring better.

Projections for Midfielders under £6m

Reijnders has disappointed after his heroics in Gameweek 1, but the Dutch international remains good value at his price. As the above image from our Player Points Projections feature shows he remains the highest projected scorer in Midfield under £6m.

Forwards - Two Penalty Takers and a new Talisman

FPL's top scoring forward with 26 FPL points, João Pedro warrants inclusion with Delap's injury further enhancing his minutes potential.

As the below image from our Fixture Difficulty Ratings shows, Chelsea are ranked fourth for 'Attack Difficulty' over the next six Gameweeks.
