While a solid start to the season is not essential for a strong finish, it certainly makes life a lot easier and Mark will be pleased that he is nearly inside the Top 100k after just four Gameweeks, overtaking Dan Bennett who we interviewed last week.
Mark’s 84 points in Gameweek 4 were acquired despite the armband being on Mohamed Salah (£13.0m) who, against all odds, did not register a single goal involvement during Liverpool’s 9-0 destruction of Bournemouth.
A large proportion of Mark’s Gameweek 4 success lay in his decision to keep faith in Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7.5m) and Luis Diaz (£8.1m) who earned 17 and 14 points, respectively. His decision to bring in Pascal Groß (£5.8m) ahead of Gameweek 3 paid off with the Brighton midfielder bagging 17 points in Gameweeks 3 and 4.

While Mark did not give Erling Haaland (£11.8m) the captain’s armband, he still benefited from his 17-point haul, with almost exactly a third of managers not owning the Norwegian striker. Returns from William Saliba (£4.7m) and Reece James (£6.1m) rounded off a solid Gameweek for the Irish Elite XI manager.
