Wain's Wonders - GW38

23 May 2015

So we turn to the final gameweek of the season. It feels a long time since GW 1 and it is fair to say it has been a rollercoaster of a season with a lot of highs and lows. However, GW 37 wasn’t a particular eventful week for me and considering it was a DGW, it wasn’t that memorable. Most players loaded up on Arsenal attack but they didn’t manage to find the back of the net and the 0-0 with Sunderland on Wednesday night meant they have failed to score in three successive home league games for the first time since February 2009.

The assets that did well were the Sunderland defence and big congratulations to those who gambled and tripled up on the backline. The clean sheet versus Leicester wasn’t too much of a surprise but the rearguard success against Arsenal was not what I had expected. The highlight of the game week has to be the Mane 3 minute hattrick against Villa in the early kick off on Saturday. Who would have thought Fowler’s record would ever be broken and who would have thought Mane would score more points in 3 minutes than Sanchez did in almost 180?

My team returned 68 points this week for a game week rank of 116,772. This was a solid score when compared to the rest of the top 50 and has hopefully secured a top 10 rank for Wain’s Wonders which at the start of the season would have been beyond my wildest dreams. After last weeks horrific points loss to the world number 1 it was good not to lose another hatful this week, only dropping 3 points and now being 42 behind him. Unless something remarkable happens on the final day of the season, I believe Simon March has the number 1 position wrapped up and for me is a deserving winner.

We now have to analyse game week 38 and make our final transfers before we get to start again with a blank team sheet in mid July. I think it is very important to hold off on transfers until all the press conferences have been completed as team value is now no longer important and there could be some rest and rotation with most teams having nothing to play for. We already know that Hazard is a doubt for the final game due to an emergency tooth operation and it is possible we will learn that managers intend to give fringe players a run out before the summer break. Two teams to think about are Arsenal and Aston Villa who have the FA Cup Final still to play. Rested players could be a factor here so it would be advised to have a strong bench this week.

The players and teams to consider for me are Benteke if he is selected to start, Lukaku at home to a despondent Tottenham, the Man United attacking assets and also Leicester players. Lukaku and Benteke are both in great form with great stats to back it up and Hull will have to attack against Man United in an attempt to stay in the Premier League, so there is a possibility it could be a high scoring game. Bearing in mind it is the final week of the season it will be hard to justify point hits as there is only one match for them to pay off, although it is the final time to catch the leaders of mini leagues and have some fun.

Keep an eye out @jawain04 on Twitter to see my final week plans and as always I am happy to offer any advice you want. Until the final update next week, good luck!
