The Fix Algorithm point projections are live for the 2022/23 season and in this blog the projected points for midfielders in different price brackets are analysed.
Last season's top point scorer Salah (41.1) topping the projections should come as no surprise but it is interesting to see De Bruyne (39.1). The addition of Haaland to the Man. City squad should mean more assists for the Belgian international and he could be a great differential. As the below image shows, Man. City are top of our Fixture Planner for the first five gameweeks.
Son (34.7) has received a significant price hike for the 2022/23 season and the South Korea international is expected to live up to the new price tag. Sterling's (19.1) projections are quite low due to lack of clarity about his role/position at Chelsea while B. Fernandes' (18.5) numbers are pessimistic due to his form in the second half of last season. However, with a new manager and new role he could outscore these projections massively.
Mahrez (35.5) is expected to benefit from the departures of Jesus and Sterling with more game time on the right-wing. Mount (27.5) and Saka (27.2) were the top scorers for their respective clubs with 11 goals apiece and also take a large share of set-pieces. Leicester's away games against Arsenal and Chelsea in gameweeks two and four means Maddison (25.5) comes in only at fourth despite a strong finish to last season in a more advanced role. Bowen (25.4) is another player to receive a significant price hike to 8.5 and our Fix Algorithm does not project him to be a good value option early doors.
The projections for the budget midfielders are quite poor in general with H. Barnes (25.6) and Zaha (24.0) the standout options. As the below image from our Stats Sandbox feature shows, although Ward-Prowse (21.7) was the fifth most creative midfielder with 71 attempted assists, the fact that he faces Spurs, Leicester, Man. Utd, Chelsea and Wolves in his first six matches dents his projections significantly.
