This blog takes a look at players that cost 10.0+ at the start of the 2022/23 season, and compares them using the Custom Stats Table Feature.
The above image is sorted by Fantasy Premier League (FPL) Value Added Per Million (VAPM) and Son (17.7) comes out on top with just seven fewer points than Salah last season and a price tag of 1.0 less. Despite being the most expensive player in the game at 13.0, Salah is second for VAPM and this underlines how good an asset he is. There is a significant dip after with De Bruyne (12.0) and Sterling (10.5), and the latter is currently a bit of an unknown having joined Chelsea. The Belgium international was one of the biggest 'Expected Goals' (xG) overperformers, scoring 9.2 goals more than projected and it will be interesting to monitor if he can sustain that output.
Kane only really got going in the second half of the season which is reflected by his low VAPM (9.7). In contrast to De Bruyne, Kane underperformed his xG numbers and should have scored 1.9 goals more than he did. The England international (133) was the only player to come close to Salah's shooting numbers (139) and has had a strong preseason. His 33 'big chances' also indicate his explosive potential if he finds his shooting boots. As the image below shows, from our Big Data Team reveal, he is a popular pick amongst the Expert managers. This Team Reveal will update every hour to reflect team changes made by the Expert managers, you can check the latest version here.
As the below image from our Fix Algorithm shows, Kane (32.4) is projected to be only the sixth highest scoring premium asset with Haaland (39.2) leading the way amongst forwards. De Bruyne (40.2) and Salah (40.1) are projected to score similar. Perhaps spending the 0.5 extra on the tried and trusted De Bruyne over new signing Haaland could prove to be a shrewd decision.
