GW9 Top Three Captaincy Picks

Fantasy Football Fix 17 Oct. 2018

Caveat : The Captaincy picks are in the below format -

  • Number one pick predicted as per the Fix Algorithm
  • Differential pick (Under 25% ownership)
  • 'Out there' pick (Under 15% ownership)

Sergio Agüero

Another international break, another two week rest for Fantasy Premier League’s (FPL) most owned asset Sergio Agüero. While many of his team mates, including Jesus, have travelled across the globe for friendlies and UEFA Nations League games, the Argentinian has had plenty of time to recover from the niggling injury that curtailed his minutes across the last few gameweeks. Despite playing only an average of 60 minutes in the last four weeks and failing to register a shot at Anfield in gameweek eight, Agüero still leads the way for goal attempts (38) and shots in the box (SiB) (28) amongst forwards. Man. City’s attack is still the most lethal in the league by some margin, the Champions have registered 65 shots on target (SoT), 16 more than second placed Man. United. Their opponents Burnley have allowed opponents a whopping 161 shots on goal, an average of 20 shots per game. To put that into context, the next worst side Brighton have allowed 135, 26 shots less. Hart should find himself in for a busy afternoon on his return to the Etihad, and our Fix Algorithm predicts Agüero to get attacking returns, with a point score of 7.0.

Raheem Sterling

With three goals and two assists in his last five games, it is surprising to find Sterling sitting in only 5.4% of FPL squads, given his return of 18 goals and 17 assists last year. As the table shows, only Mané (16), Hazard (16) and Salah (23) have attempted more SiB than the English winger (13) among midfielders, and he leads everyone for penalty box touches with 67, indicating his constant threat. The Champions are creating a chance every 4.3 minutes, a league-high, and only Agüero had higher goal involvement than Sterling at the Etihad last year. Burnley have conceded 47 SoT, with only Fulham conceding more (56), and have conceded more chances on their left-flank (37) than any other team in the league, a weakness that Sterling will be keen to exploit. Our Fix algorithm projects a score of 5.9 for the speedy winger.

Alexandre Lacazette

Omitted from the French national squad, a rested Lacazette will be looking to continue in the same rich vein of form that has seen him notch four goals and four assists in the last six gameweeks. Leicester have the unenviable task of travelling to Arsenal for gameweek nine, to face the league’s form team, with six wins in their last six and top of the goals’ chart, scoring 17 during the same period. The Gunners have fired 37 SoT, the third-highest in the league over the last six, Lacazette has accounted for eight of these, and only Mitrovic (nine) and Kane (11) have more. Their opponents Leicester are proving to be unpredictable this season – the Foxes currently sit 10th in the table but have conceded 12 goals, just one less than 19th placed Newcastle. They have allowed opponents just 33 SoT so far, the seventh lowest in the league, to put that in context, Wolves who have conceded just six goals have allowed 34. They kept a clean sheet in their last away trip to Newcastle, but conceded four in the away trip to Bournemouth, highlighting that a goalfest could be on the cards, especially if Arsenal score early. Our Fix Algorithm predicts a point score of 5.0 for the French striker.
