GW9 Top Five Key Players

Fantasy Football Fix 19 Oct. 2018

Headliner - Sergio Agüero (BUR)

Agüero has returned consistent points in four of the last five games and his total of nine Fantasy Premier League (FPL) involvements this season can only be bettered by Wilson and Hazard who both have 10. Man. City have scored a league-high total of 21 goals, while also producing more shots on target (SoT) (65) and 'big chances' (28) than any other team. The Argentine ranks first for total shots (38) and shots inside the box (SiB) (29) this season, while his 11 SoT can only be beaten by Salah, Mitrovic, Kane (all with 13) and Pogba (14). Those trends have continued over the last four gameweeks, with the Man. City forward remaining top for goal attempts (18), despite having had his minutes managed due to an ongoing injury problem. But after having time off over the international break to rest and recover he should be better placed to play more minutes against Burnley this weekend, who have allowed opponents more shots (161) than any other team in the league. Our Fix Algorithm predicts a point score of 6.5 for the Argentinian striker.

Mohamed Salah (hud)

Salah is expected to be available to face Huddersfield this weekend, despite appearing to have suffered a muscular injury for Egypt over the international break. It has been a frustrating start to the season for last season’s top goal-scorer with six midfielders averaging more than his 5.3 points per game. However, his underlying statistics paint a very different picture to his FPL returns so far. Eight 'big chances' for Salah so far this season ranks him first amongst midfielders, beaten only by Kane (nine) and Wilson (10) across all positions. Similarly, no midfielder has taken more than Salah’s 23 SiB, beating Mané and Hazard, who both have 16 and Sterling who has managed 13. Over the last four gameweeks Hazard has scored five goals to Salah’s one, but the pair have each had the same number of goal attempts (13), with the Belgian finding the target on just one more occasion (seven to six). Favourable fixtures against Huddersfield and Cardiff offer Salah and his owners the opportunity to finally earn some FPL points from those strong underlying numbers, with both promoted sides conceding 17 goals so far joint second-worst in the league. Our Fix Algorithm predicts a point score of 5.8 for the Egyptian.

Gylfi Sigurdsson (CRY)

Everton’s 2-1 away win over Leicester in gameweek eight saw Sigurdsson find his fouth goal of the season in spectacular fashion from 25 yards out. The Icelandic international fired three SoT during that game, which ranked joint-first amongst midfielders alongside Pogba. Over the last four gameweeks no midfielder has produced more than Sigurdsson’s 14 attempted assists, beating B. Silva (13), Sterling (11) and Hazard (nine). Six SoT by the Everton man over that period is level with Sterling and Salah and only Hazard with seven and Pogba with eight have taken more amongst midfielders. The Toffees have been particularly attacking on home turf – they have fired 38 shots in the box (SiB) in their four home matches, the fifth highest in the league. Our Fix Algorithm projects a point score of 4.6 for the Icelandic set piece wizard.

Aleksandar Mitrovic (car)

Mitrovic has been directly involved in six goals this season (five goals, one assist) and only Lacazette (eight), Agüero (nine) and Wilson (10) have provided more FPL involvements amongst forwards. Only Agüero (38) has had more goal attempts than the Fulham striker (34) while Pogba is the only player to produce more SoT this season with 14, compared to Mitrovic’s 13. Just one of his five goals has come during the last four Gameweeks but Fulham have faced some tricky teams including the the likes of Man. City and Arsenal. So, a total of 16 goal attempts by Mitrovic over that period looks very impressive and ranks second amongst forwards, and only Jiménez (12), Vardy (14), Kane (14) and Agüero (16) have taken more than his 11 SiB. When compared with other forwards priced at 7.0 or below, only King (five), Andre Gray (six) and Jiménez (seven) have taken more than the Serbian’s four SoT over the last four gameweeks. His opponents Cardiff have conceded 17 goals so far, and allowed their opponents 47 SoT, only Fulham themselves have allowed more (56). This fixture has all the makings of a goalfest, and our Fix Algorithm predicts the Serbian to get attacking returns, with a point score of 3.9.

Andrew Robertson (hud)

Liverpool have one of the strongest defences in the Premier League this season, with only Man. City matching their total of five clean sheets and three goals conceded. They have faced just 21 SoT this season, with Man. City being the only side to concede fewer. Robertson’s attacking potential and creativity down the left wing has been key for the Reds, with only five defenders providing more than his two assists from the opening eight matches. 13 attempted assists by the Scotland international ranks third best amongst defenders and only Trippier with 14 and Holebas with 17 have produced more. Only three of those attempted assists have come over the last four gameweeks but Liverpool have faced tough opponents like Spurs, Chelsea and Man. City, and this saw the team's overall chance creation fall from a total of 51 chances (gameweeks one to four) to 31 chances (gameweeks four to eight). Gameweek nine marks the start of a long run of favourable fixtures for Klopp’s side, which is likely to see a return to a more creative style of play. No side has troubled the opposition keeper fewer times than Huddersfield, with the Terriers managing only 20 SoT in their eight games, the lowest in the league. Our Fix Algorithm predicts a high probability of a Liverpool clean sheet, and a point score of 5.8 for the left-back.
