GW8 Top Five Key Players

Fantasy Football Fix 4 Oct. 2018

Headliner - Harry Kane (CAR)

It feels strange to call a multiple golden boot winner a differential, but only 14.2% of the top 1,000 teams owned Kane for his brace against Huddersfield in gameweek seven, compared to Hazard and Aguero’s respective 89.0% and 92.3% ownerships. After a relatively quiet start the Spurs forward looks to have kicked into gear over his last two league matches, where he has found the back of the net three times. His total of eight shots on target (SoT) in the last four gameweeks is more than any other player, beating Hazard (seven), Salah (six) and Agüero (five). Six ‘big chances’ by Kane over the same period is also the highest in the league, beating Hazard and Salah (four), while Agüero has had just one ‘big chance’ over the last four gameweeks. No team have conceded more goals than Cardiff this season (16) and their total of 14 goals conceded over the last four gameweeks is at least five more than any other side have allowed. Our Fix Algorithm backs the Englishman to bounce back from his midweek Champions League defeat with a point score of 9.6.

Eden Hazard (sou)

With six goals and two assists Hazard has been directly involved in more goals than any other midfielder this season beating Sterling’s six Fantasy Premier League (FPL) involvements and Salah’s five. 12 shots inside the box (SiB) by the Belgium international ranks joint-fourth amongst midfielders with only Sterling (13), Mané (16) and Salah (20) taking more. No midfielder has taken more than Hazard’s seven SoT over the last four gameweeks, while only Kane has produced more across all positions, with eight. The 27-year-old has amassed a total of 10 attempted assists during the same timeframe just one fewer than D. Silva, while Maddison and Willian narrowly lead the way with 13. Seven goals conceded by his opponents Southampton over the last four gameweeks ranks them joint-14th; with only Brighton (eight), Bournemouth (nine), Fulham (nine) and Cardiff (14) shipping more goals in that time. With Chelsea creating a chance every 5.5 minutes, second only to Man. City (3.9), Hazard should find plenty of opportunities to get on the scoresheet, and our Fix Algorithm predicts a point score of 5.0 for the Belgian wizard.

James Maddison (EVE)

Maddison recorded his fifth attacking return of the season during Leicester’s 2-0 win over Newcastle in gameweek seven, providing an impressive total of five attempted assists during the game. The 21-year-old has now found FPL returns in each of his last four matches, producing two goals and two assists in that time. Only two midfielders, Sterling and Hazard, have directly contributed to more goals over that run, with their five FPL involvements. As the table shows, Maddison’s total of 13 attempted assists during the last four gameweeks ranks joint-first in the league (along with Willian), beating Sterling and B. Silva, with 12, D. Silva, with 11 and Hazard, with 10. Five SoT by Maddison across the same period is just one fewer than Salah (six) has produced, while his total of 12 goal attempts ranks joint-third amongst midfielders beaten by Salah and Sterling, with 13. Over the last two gameweeks, only Man. City (18) and Wolves (13) have had more SoT than Leicester’s 13, and our Fix Algorithm expects Maddison to keep his FPL returns flowing, with a point score of 4.5.

Marko Arnautovic (bha)

Arnautovic returned from a knee injury in gameweek seven to find his fourth goal of the season, during West Ham’s 3-1 win over Man Utd. The Austrian international now has five FPL involvements in six appearances this season, and amongst forwards only Agüero, Mitrovic and Kane have scored more goals (five to four). When compared with other forwards priced at 7.0 or less, only Mitrovic (six) and Wilson (seven) have been directly involved in more goals than Arnautovic (five) this season and his total of seven SoT can only be beaten by Deeney (nine), Jiménez (10) and Mitrovic (12). West Ham have endured a tough start to the season, taking on Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea and Man Utd in their opening seven games but now have a much more favourable schedule, starting with Brighton in gameweek eight. The Seagulls are yet to register a clean sheet this season conceding 13 goals, and have allowed their opponents 79 SiB which is second-worst to Fulham (86). They have also conceded 17 ‘big chances’ and only West Ham (18), Huddersfied (18) and Fulham (24) have been more obliging. Our Fix Algorithm predicts a point score of 4.0 for the Austrian.

Luke Shaw (NEW)

It’s been a testing start to the season for Man. Utd with three defeats from their opening seven league matches but the resurgence of Shaw has been one of the few positives. The England left-back is averaging 4.3 points per game, which puts him ahead of every other member of the Man. Utd backline, including De Gea, with his 2.9 PPG. Amongst defenders Shaw’s total of nine attempted assists this season can only be bettered by Doherty (10), Robertson and Trippier (12), and Holebas (15). Nine goal attempts by the 23-year-old ranks joint-third amongst defenders behind Doherty’s 11, and Alonso’s 14. Man. Utd may have kept just one clean sheet this season, but only Wolves, Liverpool, Chelsea and Man. City have conceded fewer SiB. Their gameweek eight opponents, Newcastle, have scored just four goals this season and only Huddersfield have managed fewer, with three. This is explained by the fact that the Geordies have fired in 18 SoT this season which is second-worst in the league to Huddersfield (16). Our Fix Algorithm predicts a high probability of a Man. United clean sheet and a point score of 4.6 for the English left-back.
