GW36 Top Three Captaincy Picks

Fantasy Football Fix 24 April 2019

Caveat : This blog was written prior to the Man. Utd vs. Man. City and Wolves vs Arsenal games on 24th April, 2019.

The Captaincy picks are in the below format:

  • Number one pick predicted as per the Fix Algorithm
  • Differential pick (Under 25% ownership)
  • 'Out there' pick (Under 15% ownership)

Mohamed Salah (HUD)

Salah chipped in with an assist as Liverpool won 2-0 at Cardiff in gameweek 35, producing three Fantasy Premier League (FPL) involvements in as many gameweeks. He tops the table for shots (26), shots in the box (SiB) (17) and shots on target (SoT) (12) amongst midfielders over the last six gameweeks, as he begins to again show signs of his explosiveness. Liverpool have scored 15 goals in that same period, the highest in the league and only four teams have landed more SoT than their 32. Their total of 17 ‘big chances’ created can be bettered only by Southampton (19), Man. City (19) and Bournemouth (20). Their opponents in gameweek 35, Huddersfield, have conceded 18 goals over the aforementioned period, and only Watford (20) and West Ham (21) have allowed opponents more ‘big chances’ than their 19. Our Fix Algorithm backs Salah as the standout captain pick this week, with a point score of 8.3.

Heung-Min Son (WHU)

Son’s suspension for the first leg of Spurs’ Champions League tie with Ajax means he is almost certain to start this weekend, and as the Fix Heatmap shows, the South Korean has taken 11 shots, seven of which were SiB, and landed five SoT over the last six gameweeks. Spurs have scored nine goals over the same period, and only Chelsea (121) took more shots than their 114, but in fact have played a game more. They have created a chance every five minutes, the best in the league and only five teams have landed more than their 31 SoT. West Ham’s defensive statistics are appalling, only Huddersfield (18) have conceded more goals over the last six gameweeks than the Hammers’ 13 and no team has allowed opponents more SoT (37) or ‘big chances’ (21). Our Fix Algorithm predicts a point score of 5.6 for Son.

Gerard Deulofeu (WOL)

Deulofeu was one of the standout performers of gameweek 35 with a 17 point haul, and the Spaniard has now notched three goals in his last five appearances. As the Custom Stats table shows, he has taken 13 shots, eight of which were SiB, and landed seven SoT. Of all midfielders to have played at least 300 minutes over the last six gameweeks it is only Salah (20.7), Sterling (20.8) and Eriksen (21.6) who have had a better minutes per chance ratio than Deulofeu’s 24.2. Watford have scored nine goals over the last six gameweeks, taking 74 shots and landing 28 SoT. Their opponents Wolves have conceded seven goals in the same period, allowing opponents 17 SoT and 10 ‘big chances’. Our Fix Algorithm predicts a point score of 4.5 for Deulofeu.
