GW35 Buy, Sell, Keep

6 May 2023

As the deadline looms closer, it is time to decide what to do with our precious free transfer(s). Aside from playing chips or selecting a captain, our transfers are the single most important aspect of our FPL campaign, and the importance of getting it right cannot be overstated.

In this article we crunch the numbers, analyse the fixtures, take advice from the Algorithm, and decide which player to buy, which player to sell, and which player to keep for Gameweek 35.

BUY: Karou Mitoma

  • Cost: £5.6m
  • Selected by: 27.7%
  • Projected Points (until season end): 24.5 (2nd)

With just four Gameweeks remaining, it is time to start looking carefully at how we spend our final transfers. Excluding Erling Haaland (£12.4m) who is owned by 83.1% of managers across FPL – and 99.9% of managers in the Top 100k (Live Insight) – the player who is expected to score the most points, between now and the season end, is Brighton’s Karou Mitoma (£5.6m).

It may seem a strange suggestion, after all, Mitoma has now racked up five back-to-back blanks, but the underlying attacking numbers still favour Mitoma and with two double Gameweeks still on the horizon, there is plenty of chance for him to return.

According to Opta Stats Sandbox, Mitoma is ranked 3rd amongst midfielders, for non-penalty xG per game (since the restart), and 5th for shots on target. In terms of shots, no midfielder has had more than Alexis Mac Allister (£5.5m) but a recent regression to the number 6 role for Brighton lessens his appeal.

In terms of fixtures, Brighton assets are top of the wish list. They face Everton in Gameweek 35, followed instantly by two double Gameweeks in 36 and 37. In Gameweek 38, a less straight-forward visit to Villa Park will round off an outstanding season for De Zerbi’s Brighton.
