GW32 Differential Focus

20 April 2023

If you are the sort of Fantasy Premier League (FPL) manager who enjoys going against the grain – or takes satisfaction from finding hidden gems before the crowd – then lowly selected players (differentials) can often provide value and offer a source of points which won’t be shared by many other managers. As long as the player picks are justifiable, differentials can give you an edge over your mini-league rivals.

In this article we look ahead to blank Gameweek 32 and find players from each position who are currently selected by less than 10% of managers, but could reward those who are on a Free Hit.

DEF: Timothy Castagne

  • Cost: £4.3m
  • Selected by: 6.2%
  • Next Fixture: WOL (h)

leicester defensive stats

With seven blanks in his last nine appearances, you could be forgiven for not considering Timothy Castagne (£4.3m) – or any Leicester defensive assets – for Gameweek 32.

But with a home game against Wolves, and a relegation battle on their hands, Leicester could be a team worth looking at from a defensive perspective. Wolves are ranked 5th worst in terms of attacking threat. According to the Opta Stats Sandbox, Wolves have only produced 0.98 xG per 90 minutes in the last ten Gameweeks; only Leeds, Fulham, Southampton and Nottingham Forest have done worse.

As well as clean sheet potential in this fixture, Castagne offers other routes to points. Not only is he ranked joint second for assists this season, he also has more xFPL Points (117.32) than any other Leicester player – including James Maddison (£8.1m).
