GW32 Buy, Sell, Keep

21 April 2023

As the deadline looms closer, it is time to decide what to do with our precious free transfer(s). Aside from playing chips or selecting a captain, our transfers are the single most important aspect of our FPL campaign, and the importance of getting it right cannot be overstated.

In this article we crunch the numbers, analyse the fixtures, take advice from the Algorithm, and decide which player to buy, which player to sell, and which player to keep for Gameweek 32.

BUY: Trent Alexander-Arnold

  • Cost: £7.4m
  • Selected by: 22.5%
  • Projected Points (Next 6 GWs): 33.2

Trent Alexander Arnold (TAA)

In last week’s article we suggested bringing in The Egyptian King who racked up 14 points against Leeds, and is the Algorithm’s captaincy pick for blank Gameweek 32. Assuming you brought him in then, our focus now shifts to another Liverpool asset.

Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7.4m) has historically been a lock in the defence of most FPL squads. His ownership reached a historic low this season as Liverpool’s struggles at both ends of the pitch became notable as more than a short-term blip. But there have been encouraging signs at Liverpool in recent weeks and Alexander-Arnold could be playing a crucial role in the transition.

Much has been said about the English full-back’s new role as a hybrid midfielder, which has been identified as a key driver in Liverpool’s strong performances against league leaders Arsenal, and Leeds at the weekend. The new role has seen Alexander-Arnold drift centrally, while still maintaining his position on the right flank. This offers the opportunity to pick out the defence-splitting passes he excels at, while providing extra defensive cover.

For FPL, this means that the chances of Liverpool bagging a clean sheet increase in tandem with more opportunities for Alexander-Arnold to assist the attackers. A combination which could lead to double-digit hauls. Add to this the fact that Liverpool face Nottingham Forest, a team who – according to Opta Stats Sandbox – is ranked 2nd worst for xG conceded per 90 minutes (1.90) over the last ten Gameweeks and we could be looking at explosive returns.
