It’s that man again. A home game against a team that finished in the bottom six last year has all the ingredients for a Salah masterclass. As the heatmap shows, the Egyptian was in fine fettle in gameweek two, with three shots in the box (SIB) and four attempted assists allowing him to come away from Selhurst Park with nine Fantasy Premier League (FPL) points. Liverpool have got their season off to a flyer winning both their games, ranking fourth for SIB (22) and joint-top with Spurs for ‘big chances’ (10). Their opponents Brighton notched their first win of the season at home to Man. United last weekend but are a different prospect on the road entirely. The Seagulls had the worst away record in the division last season, with only 11 points on their travels. Hughton’s side have showed trends that this will continue conceding 12 SIB and two goals in their first away game this season at Vicarage Road. The Egyptian is expected to find plenty of opportunities to profit, with a projected Fix algorithm score of 8.5 points.
After last week’s exploits at the Etihad, it is impossible not to include the Argentinian in this week’s captain picks. Agüero scored three as Man.City put six past the Terriers and he was also awarded an assist after being fouled for D. Silva’s free kick. City had 32 attempts on goal with 14 shots on target (SOT), and are showing no signs of missing De Bruyne. A lot was expected from Wolves after their dominance in the Championship last season, but their start to life in the top-flight has been turbulent. Despite having opposing players sent off in both of their games they are yet to register a win. However, defensive stats are surprisingly good. They conceded just one SIB in gameweek two, fewer than any other side. In fact, over the first two gameweeks no team has allowed their opponents fewer shots than Wolves (12), indicating that their woes are not down to defensive fragility. They could prove a tough nut to crack at the weekend. This leads to a slightly lower than usual Fix Algorithm score of 6.7 points for the Argentinian.
It has been a tough start to the 2017/18 season for Aubameyang. A lot was expected of him after the strong start to his Arsenal career, but he has failed to deliver so far - perhaps hampered by Arsenal’s opening schedule. The Gunners faced Man. City and Chelsea in their opening games, a difficult schedule for any team. The Gabonese striker did have plenty of opportunities to get on the scoresheet at Stamford bridge, registering three SIB, two of which were ‘big chances’. His opponents this week should be far more obliging. The Hammers have lost both their opening games conceding 21 SIB, the third worst in the league. They conceded eight ‘big chances’, second only to Huddersfield with 10. Given their desperation for points West Ham are likely to commit men forward and this would afford the Arsenal forward plenty of opportunities on the counter-attack. Our Fix Algorithm projects Arsenal to score 2.76 goals this weekend against the porous Hammers, and score of 6.6 points for Aubameyang.
