Fantasy Football Fix 23 Aug. 2022

xFPL review

xFPL is calculated primarily using expected goals (xG), assists (xA), which combine as Fantasy Premier League (FPL) involvements (xG + xA = xI), as well as expected clean sheets (xC). These numbers are a result of underlying statistics (i.e. shot type and location will give a probability of scoring = xG). xFPL is the combination of these statistics and factors in appearance and bonus points to give an overall expected FPL point score.

Zaha tops the xFPL Custom Stats Table for gameweek three with a score of 13.6. The Ivory Coast international took three shots in the box (SiB), two of which were 'big chances' and also attempted three assists. No player managed more SiB (seven), shots on target (SoT) (five) or 'big chances' (four) than Mitrović. The Fulham striker notched an xFPL score of 7.1 and was only denied a bigger FPL haul by Raya's heroics. Budget midfielder A. Pereira was joint-top for attempted assists (four), he also took three shots and registered an impressive xFPL score of 7.0. Perišić put in an impressive shift on his first league start, the Croatian international attempted three assists and was fifth amongst all players for xFPL (8.9).

Early transfer activity analysed

Chelsea, Liverpool and Man. City all conceded while dropping league points this weekend and FPL managers are losing faith with some of their assets. As the above image from our Transfer Analytics shows, the likes of Alexander-Arnold, R. James, Son and Núñez are being sold in droves with Perišić, Rodrigo and Toney the beneficiaries. As the below image from our Price Predictor shows, Rodrigo is likely to go up in price soon based on current transfer activity along with several other players.

The Budget midfielder battle - Rodrigo vs Groß

gw3lessonsrodrigo

The budget midfielders are proving to be a great source of FPL points at the moment with both Rodrigo and Groß delivering returns in gameweek three. As the above image from our Opta Heatmaps feature shows, the Spanish international is head and shoulders above the German in terms of underlying numbers. Even though the 'Expected Goals' (xG) numbers are not far apart (2.11 vs 1.58), the former has taken 13 SiB compared to just three for the latter. With Mac Allister taking the last penalty, that could also lessen the German's appeal if it continues. Looking at the creative numbers, Groß has created seven chances compared to just three for Rodrigo, but interestingly the Spanish international comes out on top for xA (0.85 vs 0.71).
