GW29 Top Three Captaincy Picks

Fantasy Football Fix 28 Feb. 2019

Caveat : The Captaincy picks are in the below format -

  • Number one pick predicted as per the Fix Algorithm
  • Differential pick (Under 25% ownership)
  • 'Out there' pick (Under 15% ownership)

Paul Pogba (SOU)

Despite a number of injuries, Man. United won 3-1 at Crystal Palace to continue their charge for a Champions League spot and Pogba delivered again for his Fantasy Premier League (FPL) owners with an assist for Young’s goal. Over the last six home matches, Pogba has taken 26 shots, scored six goals and landed 13 shots on target (SoT), top for midfielders in all three metrics. Over the same period, Man. United have scored 15 goals, with only Man. City (17), Arsenal (18) and Liverpool (22) scoring more on home turf. The Red Devils’ total of 46 SoT was only beaten by Liverpool who managed 49. Southampton’s clean sheet against Fulham in gameweek 28 was their first in the last six gameweeks, and they allowed opponents 21 SoT over that period. Our Fix Algorithm backs Pogba as the standout captain option this week with a point score of 7.8.

Eden Hazard (ful)

Chelsea will be going into the game against the Cottagers full of confidence having beaten Spurs in gameweek 28, and given his early substitution in that game the Belgian should be well rested, and ready to pile on the misery for a woeful Fulham outfit. As the Custom Stats table shows, over the last six gameweeks, Hazard has created 11 chances, taken eight shots in the box (SiB) and landed five SoT, scoring two goals. Although Chelsea have only scored seven goals in this period, Fulham’s defensive stats offer plenty of cause for optimism. The Cottagers conceded 14 goals , joint bottom with Leicester and Cardiff. They allowed opponents more shots (96), SiB (73) and SoT (35) than any other team, and only four teams conceded more ‘big chances’ than their 14. Our Fix Algorithm backs Hazard to breach the Cottagers’ defence with a point score of 6.0.

Raheem Sterling (bou)

The Champions visit the Cherries looking to keep the pressure on Liverpool in the title race, and Sterling should find himself in the starting eleven once again having featured only as a substitute against the Hammers. As the Custom Stats table shows, over the last six gameweeks the winger has scored three goals which only Pogba (four) and Mané (six) could top amongst midfielders. He took seven SiB over these matches, landing six SoT. He also recorded 36 penalty box touches, fourth-highest among midfielders, with only H. Barnes (37), D. Silva (45) and Salah (56) fairing better. In the same period, Man. City scored 16 goals, more than any other team, and also topped the table for SoT (93). Only Leicester (104) took more shots than the Champions’ 93. Their opponents Bournemouth have conceded 11 goals in their last six matches with only five teams performing worse. They are also fourth-bottom for SoT conceded with 30. Our Fix Algorithmprojects a point score of 4.5 for the Englishman.
