GW27 Differential Focus

8 March 2023

If you are the sort of Fantasy Premier League (FPL) manager who enjoys going against the grain – or takes satisfaction from finding hidden gems before the crowd – then lowly selected players (differentials) can often provide value and offer a source of points which won’t be shared by many other managers. As long as the player picks are justifiable, differentials can give you an edge over your mini-league rivals.

In this article we look ahead to Gameweek 27 and find players from each position who are currently selected by less than 10% of managers, but could reward their owners in the upcoming Gameweeks.

DEF: Joël Veltman

  • Cost: £4.6m

If you are looking for a differential defender, then Brighton is not a bad place to start. All of their defensive assets currently fall within the definition of a differential, and Joël Veltman (£4.6m) is owned by just 3% of FPL managers.

Brighton double in Gameweek 27 – where they play Leeds and Crystal Palace – and again in Gameweek 29, facing Brentford and Bournemouth. These are excellent fixtures; the only sting in the tail is the fact that they blank in between, in Gameweek 28.

Of all Brighton defenders, Veltman is top for xFPL Points per 90 minutes (5.02) beating more popular options such as Pervis Estupiñán (£4.8m) and Lewis Dunk (£4.7m).
