GW23 Top Three Captaincy Picks

Fantasy Football Fix 17 Jan. 2019

Caveat : The Captaincy picks are in the below format -

  • Number one pick predicted as per the Fix Algorithm
  • Differential pick (Under 25% ownership)
  • 'Out there' pick (Under 15% ownership)

Mohamed Salah (CRY)

Salah rewarded his captaincy backers with 11 points in gameweek 22 and he retains the armband for the home fixture with Palace in gameweek 23. With four goals and three assists in his last six matches the Egyptian is in sparkling form and is now the top scoring Fantasy Premier League (FPL) asset, 18 points ahead of second placed Hazard who has 144. As the Fix Custom Stats table shows, only Richarlison (16) attempted more shots in the box (SiB) than the Egyptian’s 12 over this period, and he also attempted 14 assists, with only Sterling (15), Maddison (17) and Fraser (18) attempting more. The Reds have also upped their goal threat – no team has scored more goals than their 16 over the aforementioned period and only Man. United landed more shots on target (SoT) (44) than their 41. Palace have conceded 17 goals in their 11 away matches thus far, and Salah should have plenty of opportunities to breach their backline. Our Fix Algorithm predicts a point score of 6.8 for the Egyptian.

Leroy Sané (hud)

Sané followed up his winning goal against Liverpool in gameweek 21 with an assist and two bonus points against Wolves in gameweek 22, cementing his spot on the left wing for the trip to Huddersfield in gameweek 23. Over the last six gameweeks, the German has created nine chances, and taken eight SiB, with 37 penalty area touches. As the Fix Heatmaps feature shows, no Man. City player has fired in more SoT than Sané’s four over this period. The Champions appear to be back to their best with three consecutive wins, and only Tottenham (36), Liverpool (41) and Man. Utd (44) have fired in more SoT than their 36 or scored more goals than their 14. Huddersfield recently parted ways with Wagner and with a replacement yet to be appointed at the time of writing, the Terriers look to be in disarray. They have conceded 10 goals in their last six matches, the sixth worst in the league. Only Cardiff (35) have allowed opponents more SoT than Huddersfield’s 34, indicating that they have been fortunate not to concede more. Our Fix Algorithm backs the German to spearhead the Champions’ title charge with a point score of 5.7.

Christian Eriksen (ful)

Spurs will be looking to get back to winning ways as they visit Craven Cottage in gameweek 23, and with the injury to Kane, the onus is on Spurs’ midfield to provide the goal threat. As the Custom stats table shows, over the last six gameweeks, Eriksen has attempted 10 assists and taken 10 shots, with only Son scoring more goals than his four amongst midfielders. No team scored more than Spurs’ 16 goals over this period, as they racked up 36 SoT at an average of six a game. Their opponents Fulham are the only team in the league yet to keep a home clean sheet, and only Burnley (21) and Cardiff (23) have conceded more goals than the Cottagers’ 19 on home turf, and only the same two teams have allowed opponents more SoT than Fulham’s 56. Our Fix Algorithm backs Eriksen to shine in Kane’s absence, with a point score of 6.4.
