1. xFPL review

xFPL is calculated primarily using expected goals (xG), assists (xA), which combine as Fantasy Premier League (FPL) involvements (xG + xA = xI), as well as expected clean sheets (xC). These numbers are a result of underlying statistics (i.e. shot type and location will give a probability of scoring = xG). xFPL is the combination of these statistics and factors in appearance and bonus points to give an overall expected FPL point score.

Gündogan tops the Custom Stats table for gameweek 23 with a score of 16.4. The German took three shots in the box (SiB), all of which were ‘big chances. Maddison led the way for shots (six), the Englishman landed three of these attempts on target but none of them were ‘big chances’, which explains his low xFPL score of 3.7. Grealish and Moutinho were the week’s most creative players with four attempted assists each, notching xFPL scores of 3.6 and 3.3 respectively. Kane posted impressive numbers on his return with five shots, two ‘big chances’ and two attempted assists which gave him a 8.1 xFPL score.

2. Tarkowski vs Mee

Burnley are one of four teams with a double gameweek in 24 and the numbers for their centre-backs Tarkowski and Mee are compared over the season using our Fix Heatmaps feature. Tarkowski has played four more matches than Mee but the latter still beats him for shots on target (SoT) five to four. The attempted assists numbers are interesting, Tarkowski is the clear winner here with five to Mee’s two. Mee has already found the back of the net twice this season while Tarkowski is yet to notch, both appear excellent picks for the double and there is not much to split the two, with Mee perhaps edging it due to better average BPS score (Bonus Points System) 18.00 to Tarkowski’s 14.25.  

3. A closer look at Fulham

Fulham are also one of the teams to have a double gameweek in 24 and their assets are compared over the last four gameweeks using the Stats Sandbox feature. Their goalkeeper Areola leads the way for xFPL score (16.42) with Lookman coming in third with 15.41. Loftus-Cheek, Cavaleiro and Lookman have all registered nine shots but Lookman also offers creativity with a table-topping 11 attempted assists. None of their players registered more ‘big chances’ than Decordova-Reid (two) who also tops the table for expected goals (xG) (1.09).
