Matt Corbidge has been one of the best FPL managers around for a quite some time. With 5 x Top 5k finishes and 6 x Top 10k finishes he is almost impossibly consistent. According to Premier FPL Tools ‘All Time FPL Rankings’ he has recently displaced enigmatic FPL legend, Fabio Borges, to become the #1 FPL best manager in the world.

With 55 points (so far) in Double Gameweek 23, Matt has overtaken James Cooper to the top of the Elite XI Managers’ table. In this article we take a look at how the Gameweek is going, and Matt’s plans for the upcoming weeks.

Double Gameweek 23

In what was a rather disappointing Gameweek for many highly owned assets, huge scores are something of a rarity so far. According to Live Insight, the average score amongst FPL managers in the Top 100k is 50, and so Matt will be pleased with his points tally over the weekend, especially in light of the fact that he has taken no hits, and still has six players left to play.

For Matt, two players in particular made a difference. The first was Riyad Mahrez (£7.8m) who opened up his Gameweek 23 account with a 12-pointer against Aston Villa. Perhaps a little fortunate to be given a penalty – when Erling Haaland (£12.2m) is the designated taker and was on the pitch at the time – Mahrez nevertheless performed well and continues to make an argument to be first choice for Manchester City.

Another player who made a big difference was Luke Shaw (£5.3m) who, despite being owned by over 82% of managers in the Top 100k, was actually benched by a huge number of his owners. According to Live Insight, his Effective Ownership was just 56.5% leaving many managers frustrated by their bench score.
