GW21 Top Three Captaincy Picks

30 Dec. 2021

Caveat: This blog is written prior to the Man. Utd vs Burnley fixture on 30/12/2021. At the time of writing, Maddison is expected to be available for gameweek 20 after Rodgers' post game comments indicated just a knock.

Picks are in below format

  1. No.1 predicted by Fix
  2. Alternative high-ownership option. Over 20%
  3. Differential option. Under 20%

Heung-Min Son (wat)

Son has notched two goals and an assist over the last four gameweeks and is ranked eighth amongst midfielders for Fantasy Premier League (FPL) points (21). Only Salah (five) has been afforded more 'big chances' than the South Korean (four) and he is top for shots on target (SoT) (six). He has been creative too, only Bowen (four) has created more 'big chances' than his three. Spurs have scored six goals over the last four gameweeks and only Arsenal (11) and Man. City (18) have been more prolific. The North London outfit’s total of 14 'big chances' is also only bettered by the league leaders Man. City (15). Their hosts Watford have conceded 21 goals at home this season, only Newcastle (22) have shipped in more on home turf. So far this season, no team has conceded more 'big chances' at home than the Hornets (30). Our Fix Algorithm currently projects a point score of 5.5 for Son.

Mohamed Salah (che)

Salah registered a zero-pointer for the first time since his return to the Premier League and despite just one goal over the last four gameweeks, he continues to post good underlying numbers. As the below image from our Stats Sandbox feature shows, only Jota (13) has registered more shots in the box (SiB) amongst midfielders than his nine and he is top for 'big chances' (five) over the aforementioned period. Liverpool have scored just five goals over the last four gameweeks but are ranked second for shots (62) and fourth for 'big chances' (11). Their opponents Chelsea have conceded three goals over the same period, keeping just one clean sheet. The London side are ranked 11th for shots conceded (35) and 10th for SoT conceded (11). Our Fix Algorithm currently projects a point score of 4.8 for Salah.

James Maddison (NOR)

Maddison has been in sparkling form with two goals and three assists over Leicester's last three matches. As the below image from our Match Stats feature shows, across the last five gameweeks the midfielder is top amongst Leicester players for goals (two), SoT (four), assists (three) and attempted assists (five). The Foxes have scored eight goals over the same period with only Arsenal (14) and Man. City (19) finding the back of the net more often. They are ranked sixth for 'big chances' (nine) and ninth for SoT (14) having played just three matches. Their visitors Norwich have been in wretched form conceding 11 goals over the last five gameweeks, with only Newcastle (12) and Leeds (14) faring worse. Meanwhile, Southampton (26) and Leeds (33) are the only teams to have allowed opponents more SoT than the Canaries (23). Our Fix Algorithm currently projects a point score of 3.2 for Maddison.
