GW2 Top Three Captaincy Picks

Fantasy Football Fix 16 Aug. 2018

Sergio Agüero (HUD)

Arguably the Premier League’s striker of the decade, Agüero needs no introduction. The Argentine came very close to opening his account for the season in gameweek one, only to be denied by a great save from Cech. As displayed in the Heatmap below, he had three goal attempts and created two chances, indicating that he was perhaps unlucky to come away from the Emirates with no returns. Man. City also displayed themselves as the potent attacking force we became accustomed to last season – they fired eight shots on target (SOT), joint second with Liverpool. Their opponents, Huddersfield, allowed 10 shots in the box (SIB) to Chelsea, conceding three goals in the process. The Terriers conceded 33 goals away from home in the 2017/18 season, an average of 1.7, and City scored 61 of their 104 goals at home, an average of over three goals per game. It comes as no surprise that our Fix Algorithm expects the Argentine to prosper, with a projected score of 7.5

Harry Kane (FUL)

The golden boot winner for two of the last three seasons saw his campaign get off to a slow start at Newcastle. Kane, had only two attempts on goal, with none of them on target but did create two chances. The Englishman did not look fully up to speed having resumed training only five days before the opening fixture. His pedigree, however, cannot be denied – as our Custom Stats Tables show, Kane fired 183 shots last season, 40 more than second placed Salah, at rate of 16.8 minutes per shot. 76 of these shots were on target, again ahead of Salah with 68. Newly promoted Fulham had a poor start to life in the top flight, losing 0-2 at home to Palace. The Cottagers conceded 10 SOT, more than any other team, and were perhaps lucky to only lose by two. Spurs, on the other hand, fired 12 SIB, just one less than Liverpool, offering hope that Kane will find plenty of opportunities to end his August drought. The Fix Algorithm projects Kane to be the highest scorer this week with a score of 9.3

Mohamad Salah (CRY)

The most owned asset in FPL continued where he left off last season, opening the scoring for Liverpool vs. West Ham. The Egyptian was his usual effervescent self, with seven penalty box touches, four shots, three SOT and two chances created. Liverpool looked a potent attacking unit, topping the SIB charts at 13. Their opponents Palace kept a clean sheet in their opening game, but gave up six SOT, two of which were big chances, indicating they were a tad fortuitous. Palace are considered a bit of a bogey team for Liverpool, since the 3-3 ‘Crystanbul’ game which ended their title ambitions in 2013/14. Hodgson himself has history at Liverpool, being sacked midway through the 2010/11 season and would love to get one back on his former employers. The Eagles have also kept clean sheets in four of their last five games. Perhaps, this is why Salah is projected to be behind Agüero and the Spurs attackers by our Fix Algorithm, with a score of 6.20
