GW18 Top Three Captaincy Picks

Fantasy Football Fix 19 Dec. 2018

Caveat : The Captaincy picks are in the below format -

  • Number one pick predicted as per the Fix Algorithm
  • Differential pick (Under 25% ownership)
  • 'Out there' pick (Under 15% ownership)

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

Despite failing to score in the last two gameweeks, the Gabonese is the standout captain pick for gameweek 18 as he welcomes Burnley to the Emirates. As our Fix Heatmap shows, he took three shots in the box (SiB) vs. Southampton, with two finding the target (SoT), and had more penalty box touches than any player in that fixture. He also created two chances, and with an expected goals (xG) score of 0.71, it seems he was unfortunate not to register any Fantasy Premier League (FPL) returns. Arsenal will be looking to bounce back after this defeat, and only Liverpool (18), Chelsea (19) and Man. City (33) have scored more goals on home turf than the Gunners. Over the last six gameweeks, no team has allowed opponents more SiB than Burnley, and only four sides have conceded more ‘big chances’ than their 14. Our Fix Algorithm expects Arsenal to get back to winning ways, with the Gabonese at the forefront, and a point score of 6.2.

Leroy Sané

The German finds himself included in the captain picks for the first time this season, as he faces Crystal Palace at the Etihad Stadium in gameweek 18. As the last five game statistics in our Match Preview feature show, Sané has been the Champions’ primary creative outlet, with 13 chances created, well ahead of second placed Gündoğan with nine. He has also landed more SoT than any team-mate in the same timeframe, beating Jesus seven to five. No Man. City player has been more involved in their attacking play in this period, as he tops the stats for goals (three) and assists (four). Only Liverpool (14) have scored more goals in the aforementioned period than the Champions (12) and the Palace defence should offer little resistance. The Eagles have conceded 15 goals in their nine away matches, the seventh worst in the league. Our Fix Algorithm predicts the German to continue his sparkling form, with a point score of 5.8.

Salomon Rondón

The Venezuelan scored the decisive goal for Newcastle in gameweek 17, taking his total to four for the season. Over the last six gameweeks Rondón tops the forwards custom stats table for goals (four), shots (23), SiB (16) and SoT (nine), beating the likes of Kane, Firmino and Aubameyang and was involed in 71% of Newcastle’s goals over this period. Although the Magpies have only scored seven goals across their nine home games the visit of an abysmal Fulham defence gives them a perfect opportunity to add to that. The Cottagers have conceded 24 goals in their nine away matches, and no team has allowed opponents more SoT than their 65 on the road. They are also bottom of the league for ‘big chances’ conceded in away games with 32. Given Rondón importance to Newcastle’s attacking play and goal involvement, our Fix Algorithm backs the Venezuelan to get attacking returns with a point score of 4.2.
