GW17 Top Three Captaincy Picks

Fantasy Football Fix 13 Dec. 2018

Caveat : The Captaincy picks are in the below format -

  • Number one pick predicted as per the Fix Algorithm
  • Differential pick (Under 25% ownership)
  • 'Out there' pick (Under 15% ownership)

Harry Kane (BUR)

Spurs will be looking to carry the confidence gained from their Champions League progression into the Premier League as they square up against the Clarets at Wembley this weekend. Over the last five gameweeks no forward has scored more goals than Kane’s three, and the Englishman also leads the way for shots on target (SoT) with eight. As the Last 5 Game Player Statistics from our Match Preview feature show, Kane dominates most of the attacking metrics for Spurs along with Son, and beats the Korean for Expected Goals 3.1 to 2.8. Only Man. City (12) and Liverpool (13) scored more goals than Spurs during this period, and only three teams attempted more than their 27 SoT. Their opponents Burnley conceded 59 SiB in the same time frame, more than any other team. Our Fix Algorithm backs Kane as the standout captain option this week, with a point score of 8.0.

Raheem Sterling (EVE)

The Champions will be looking to bounce back from their defeat at Stamford Bridge in gameweek 16, as they welcome Everton to the Etihad Stadium, where Sterling has scored six of his eight goals, more than any midfielder on home turf. As the Custom Stats Table shows, only Salah (18), Richarlison (19) and Sigurdsson (19) have taken more SiB amongst midfielders in home matches, and only Pogba (12), Hazard (12) and Salah (12) have more SoT than Sterling’s 10. Man. City have scored 30 goals in their eight home matches, an average of nearly four a game. They average a chance created every four minutes, and nearly nine SoT per game. Given that the Toffees conceded two goals in their last game to Watford, their defence is sure to be in for a torrid afternoon. Our Fix Algorithm predicts a point score of 5.8 for Sterling.

Dele Alli (BUR)

Alli scored against Leicester in gameweek 16 to remind Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers of his pedigree ahead of Spurs kind run of fixtures, and at only 3.5% ownership, the Englishman is an explosive 'out there' pick this week. Over the last four gameweeks, only Liverpool have scored more goals (11) than Spurs 10, with Alli playing a part in three of those, with two goals and an assist. Only Man. United (28) have taken more SoT than Tottenham's 25 , indicating that the Spurs attack is finally finding its feet. The Englishman is some way behind his total of nine goals and ten assists from last season, and has the perfect platform to improve those numbers. No team has conceded more SiB than Burnley’s 192 this season, and only Fulham (40) have conceded more goals than the Clarets’ 32. Our Fix Algorithm predicts a point score of 6.4 for the 22 year old midfielder.
