GW17 Top Five Key Players

Fantasy Football Fix 12 Dec. 2019

Headliner - Jamie Vardy (NOR)

With seven goals in the last six gameweeks, Vardy is the league's form player and he once again headlines the picks as Leicester welcome Norwich to the King Power Stadium. As the FPL Statistics feature shows, he is the most owned player in the game at 49.2% ownership. His 21 shots over that period only trails Rashford (22) and Jiménez (28) amongst forwards and he is top for 'big chances' (12) and shots on target (SoT) (13). The Foxes have scored 14 goals over the last six league matches, only Liverpool (17) have scored more. They lead the league for shots in the box (SiB) (82), SoT (40) and 'big chances' (24) over that period. Their opponents Norwich have conceded 10 goals in the last six matches, only Bournemouth (11), Everton, Villa (both 12), West Ham and Burnley (both 14) have conceded more. They have allowed opponents 62 SiB with only Brighton (65), Arsenal (66), Southampton (67), Newcastle (71) and Villa (82) faring worse. Our Fix Algorithm projects a point score of 8.5 for Vardy.

Mohamed Salah (WAT)

Salah looks back to his best after scoring a goal that defied physics in the Champions League and over the last four home matches no midfielder has taken more shots (17) or landed more SoT (nine) than the Egyptian. He was afforded three 'big chances' with only El Ghazi (four), Mané and Pulisic (both five) managing more. No team has scored more goals than Liverpool's 17 over the last six gameweeks and the Reds are ranked third for SiB (73), trailing only Man. City (80) and Leicester (82). They are also third for SoT with 36 and only Leicester and Man. Utd (40) have managed more, while Burnley (19) and Leicester (24) have created more 'big chances' than their 18. Watford have conceded nine goals over their last six matches, and are ranked eighth-bottom for SoT conceded (30) and fifth-bottom for 'big chances' conceded (14). You can check the impact a brace for Salah would have on your 'Overall rank' using the Fix Rank Prediction feature. Our Fix Algorithm projects a point score of 8.4 for Salah.

Danny Ings (WHU)

Ings has scored five goals in the last six gameweeks, only Vardy (seven) has been more prolific. Our Predicted Lineups feature has him at 99% to start, which suggest he is one of the first names on the team sheet for Southampton. Although he is ranked only sixth amongst forwards for SoT with seven, he has the highest goal conversion rate amongst strikers over that period, scoring with 38.5% of his 13 shots. He is also ranked seventh for 'big chances' (four). Only eight teams have scored more than Southampton's nine goals over their last six matches and they are ranked 10th for shots (72) and ninth for 'big chances' (13). West Ham's defensive statistics are appalling. No team has conceded more goals (14) over the last six matches than the Hammers and they are also bottom for SoT conceded (43) and 'big chances' conceded (24). Our Fix Algorithm projects a point score of 5.1 for Ings.

Christian Pulisic (BOU)

Pulisic's form has dipped a bit of late, with just two goals in his last six matches, but it has not been for want of trying. As the Stats Sandbox feature shows, only De Bruyne (22) has taken more shots over the aforementioned period than Pulisic's 21 amongst midfielders and he is top for SiB with 17. His eight SoT is beaten only by Richarlison (nine) and he trails only Mané (six) for 'big chances' (five). Chelsea have scored only eight goals in the last six league games but the underlying statistics are promising. Man. City (123) are the only team to have taken more shots than the Blues' 109 and they are also ranked third for SoT (36), trailing just Leicester and Man. Utd (both 40). Bournemouth have lost their last five matches and have major defensive injuries with Aké and S. Cook both out. The Cherries have conceded 11 goals over the last six matches with only Everton, Villa (both 12), Burnley and West Ham (both 14) conceding more. While only five teams have allowed opponents more SoT than their 36 and they are also ranked fifth-bottom for 'big chances' conceded with 14. Our Fix Algorithm projects a point score of 5.9 for Pulisic.

Trent Alexander-Arnold (WAT)

Alexander-Arnold was unlucky to miss out on a Liverpool clean sheet as he was benched against Bournemouth in gameweek 16 and over the last six gameweeks no defender has managed more than his four assists. Only Digne (17) created more chances amongst defenders than his 14. Liverpool have conceded only six goals over that period and only Leicester (two) have been more frugal. They also only trail the Foxes (10) for SoT conceded (20). No team has scored fewer goals than Watford's four over the last six gameweeks and only Burnley (57), West Ham (56) and Palace (48) have taken fewer shots than their 62. Palace (14) are the only team to have landed fewer SoT than the Hornets' 16. Our Fix Algorithm projects a 60% chance of a Liverpool clean sheet and a point score of 6.0 for Alexander-Arnold.
