GW16 Top Three Captaincy Picks

Fantasy Football Fix 6 Dec. 2018

Caveat : The Captaincy picks are in the below format -

  • Number one pick predicted as per the Fix Algorithm
  • Differential pick (Under 25% ownership)
  • 'Out there' pick (Under 15% ownership)

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

Despite blanking away to Man. United in gameweek 16, Aubameyang posted decent numbers, with two shots on target (SoT). Over the last four gameweeks, the Gabonese ranks fifth for SoT amongst forwards with five, and leads the way for goals scored with three. He has also created four chances, adding a creative element to his game. Over the same period, the Gunners have taken 61 goal attempts, the fourth highest in the league and only Man. City (12) have scored more goals than Arsenal’s nine. Huddersfield shipped two goals to Bournemouth in a 2-1 loss, and only Burnley (17), Southampton (18) and Fulham (20) have conceded more goals than the Terriers on their travels. Given that only Chelsea (17) and Man. City (30) have scored more goals than Arsenal’s 16 on home turf, the Terriers are sure to be in for a tough afternoon, and our Fix Algorithm backs Aubameyang as the standout captain pick this week, with a point score of 5.9.

Gylfi Sigurdsson

Sigurdsson failed to register Fantasy Premier League (FPL) returns in his plum fixture against Newcastle in gameweek 15, with the Icelander creating only two chances and registering a single goal attempt, a dip from his usual output. Only Silva (24) and Hazard (27) have created more chances on home turf amongst midfielders than the Icelander’s 23, and no one has more goal attempts than his 24, which indicates his latest performance may have just been a blip. Only Chelsea (85) and Man. City (124) have taken more SiB in home matches this season, with only four teams scoring more home goals than the Toffees’ 14. After a strong start to the season, their opponents Watford have only picked up one point in their last four games, conceding eight goals in the process, only Southampton (nine) have conceded more. They have also conceded 12 ‘big chances’ in this period, only Newcastle (14) have allowed more. Our Fix Algorithm expects Sigurdsson to get attacking returns, with a point score of 5.9.

Héctor Bellerín

Arsenal’s switch to a back three has led to Bellerín occupying a right-wing back role, and it has boosted his attacking threat significantly. Over the last four gameweeks, only Chambers (7), Tomkins (6) and Van Aanholt (6) have taken more SiB than the Spaniard’s five, and only Kolašinac (27) has registered more penalty box touches than his 18. Huddersfield have scored only seven goals on their travels, the sixth lowest in the league, and given that Arsenal have conceded only eight goals in as many home matches, our Fix Algorithm backs the Gunners to be the team most likely to keep a clean sheet this weekend, with a 54% probability, and a projected point score of 5.4 for Bellerín.
