Fantasy Football Fix 7 Dec. 2018

Headliner – Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

A home fixture against Huddersfield sees the Premier League’s leading goal scorer feature as the headliner for this week’s picks with some superb numbers of late as seen below using our Player Heatmaps feature. Over the last six gameweeks, the Gabonese international has taken 10 shots in the box (SiB), seventh highest amongst forwards, and only Wilson (seven), Morata (seven), Jiménez (seven) and Kane (14) have fired in more shots on target (SoT). He ranks fourth for ‘big chances’ amongst forwards, with six, trailing Hernandez (seven), Wilson (eight) and Morata (nine). The Gunners have scored 12 goals over the aforementioned period, only Liverpool (14) and Man. City (19) have scored more. Only Chelsea (17) and Man. City (30) have scored more goals than Arsenal’s 16 on home turf, and the Huddersfield defence will surely find it hard to keep them out, given that only Burnley (17), Southampton (18) and Fulham (20) have conceded more goals than the Terriers on their travels. Our Fix Algorithm projects a point score of 5.6 for the Gabonese striker.gw16aubacap

Mohamed Salah

Salah came off the bench to setup Shaqiri’s goal against Burnley and with a midweek rest the Egyptian should feature in the starting lineup against Bournemouth. Over the last six gameweeks only Richarlison (13) has taken more SiB amongst midfielders than Salah’s 11, and no midfielder has had more SoT than the Egyptian’s nine as can be seen in our Custom Stats Builder below. He has also created 14 chances, with only Snodgrass (15), Mooy (16), Seri (16) and Hazard (17) creating more. Only Man. City (19) have scored more goals than Liverpool’s 14 over the same time-frame, and no side has fired in more SoT than the Reds’ 38. After a strong start to the season, Bournemouth’s defence has looked shaky over the past six games conceding 10 goals and only four sides have conceded more. They have also conceded 73 SiB over this period which only Burnley can topple (81). The Cherries have also allowed opponents 17 ‘big chances’, only Burnley (18), Cardiff (19) and Newcastle (20) have been more obliging. Our Fix Algorithm backs the Egyptian to breach the Cherries’ defense, with a point score of 5.8.

Raul Jiménez

Jiménez notched his 10th attacking return of the season with a goal against Chelsea in gameweek 15, and over the last six gameweeks, no forward has taken more SiB than the Mexican’s 16 as displayed in our Fix Comparison Matrix below. Seven of these were SoT while only Kane (14) has tested the opposition goalkeeper more frequently. The Mexican also created nine chances during this period, only four other forwards created more. Although Wolves only scored only six goals overt his period they have created a chance every 6.6 minutes, and took 87 shots, the sixth highest in the league which is just one less than free-scoring Man. City.  Newcastle’s defensive statistics offer plenty of cause for optimism when looking at data from the last six gameweeks, only Bournemouth (73) and Burnley (81) have allowed opponents more SiB than Newcastle (66) and no team have conceded more ‘big chances’ than their 20. Our Fix Algorithm expects Jiménez to get attacking returns at the Sports Direct Arena, with a point score of 3.3.

Callum Paterson

Classified as a midfielder in FPL, Paterson has been playing up front for Cardiff for the last six gameweeks, and over that period, only Richarlison (13) has taken more SiB amongst midfielders than the Scot's 11 which can be seen in our Custom Stats Builder below. He has scored two goals in these matches from both of his SoT. Cardiff’s statistics at home are impressive – the Bluebirds have taken 71 SiB, the fourth highest in the league, the same number as second-placed Liverpool. They have scored eleven of their fourteen goals on home turf highlighting the importance of their home form for their survival hopes. Having won their last two home fixtures, the Bluebirds face fellow ‘relegation-battlers’ Southampton, a fixture that Warnock would have pencilled down as a must-win. Over the last six gameweeks, no team has conceded more goals than Southampton’s 15, with only three teams allowing opponents more SoT than their 32. Our Fix Algorithm backs the Scot to put the Saints to the sword, with a point score of 4.0.

Sead Kolašinac

Arsenal’s switch to a back three and an injury to Monreal has led to Kolašinac landing the left-wing back berth, and the Bosnian has posted impressive numbers since the tactical change. Over the last four gameweeks, no defender has attempted more assists than the Bosnian’s 10 as displayed in the custom graph built from our Custom Stats Builder feature, and no defender has more penalty box touches than his 28. He was Arsenal’s main creative outlet at Old Trafford, creating three chances and no player on the pitch created more. Arsenal have conceded only eight goals in their eight home matches this season, and given that the Terriers have only scored seven goals on their travels, our Fix Algorithm backs the Gunners to have the highest probability of a clean sheet this week, with 54%, and a point score of 4.5 for the big Bosnian.
