GW15 Top Three Captaincy Picks

Fantasy Football Fix 3 Dec. 2018

Caveat : The Captaincy picks are in the below format -

  • Number one pick predicted as per the Fix Algorithm
  • Differential pick (Under 25% ownership)
  • 'Out there' pick (Under 15% ownership)

Mohamad Salah (bur)

Despite blanking at home to Everton in gameweek 14, Salah is the standout captain pick this week as Liverpool travel to Turf Moor to face a Burnley side that has conceded more shots than any other team in the league. As the table shows, over the last six gameweeks, only Paterson (14) has taken more shots than the Egyptian’s 12, with four of these being ‘big chances’. Although he failed to register a shot in the box (SiB) against Everton, he created four chances, displaying his all-round potential for FPL (Fantasy Premier League) returns. Origi’s last minute winner in the derby ensured that Liverpool remain firmly in pursuit of Man. City in the title race and the Reds will be looking to continue their sparkling away form which has seen them win 17 points from a possible 21, scoring 12 in the process, which means a midweek rest looks unlikely for the Egyptian. During the same six week period, Burnley have conceded a whopping 138 shots, 37 more than the next worst side (Brighton) and 86 SiB, 27 more than second-worst Newcastle. They have also conceded 42 shots on target (SoT), an average of six per game, the worst in the division. Salah should have plenty of opportunities to get back on the scoresheet, with a projected point score of 7.0 as per our Fix Algorithm.

Harry Kane (SOT)

Defeat in the North London derby would have stung local boy Harry Kane in particular, and the Englishman has the perfect opportunity to make amends as ‘relegation battlers’ Southampton visit Wembley in gameweek 15. Over the last six gameweeks, no forward has attempted more shots than the Englishman’s 22 nor landed more SoT (11). He has scored three goals with only Aubameyang (six) and Wilson (four) scoring more. Spurs have fired in 28 SoT over this period, the sixth highest in the league. Southampton are languishing at 18th in the table, with 12 goals conceded in their last six, and their underlying statistics evidence their defensive malaise. They have conceded 48 SiB, the eighth worst in the league, and only Fulham (14) and Burnley (17) have conceded more goals. Kane scored a hattrick in this same fixture last season, and our Fix Algorithm expects him to get attacking returns again, with a point score of 6.7.

Gylfi Sigurdsson (NEW)

Everton were unlucky to come away with nothing from the Merseyside derby in gameweek 14 as they continued their resurgence under Silva. Sigurdsson has been key to their attack since moving to a number 10 role and over the last six gameweeks, only Neves (21), Kenedy (21) and Salah (19) have taken more shots than the Icelander’s 17. He has also created nine chances over this period, three of which were ‘big chances’. The Toffees are particularly strong at home, where they have attempted 71 SiB, the fifth best in the league. Their opponents Newcastle conceded three goals to West Ham in gameweek 14 and their defensive stats indicate that they will be in for more of the same at Goodison. Over the last six weeks, only Burnley (86) have allowed opponents more SiB than the Magpies’ 59, despite a benign fixture list where they played none of the ‘top six’ teams. Our Fix Algorithm projects a point score of 5.5 for the Icelander.
