GW14 Top Three Captaincy picks

Fantasy Football Fix 28 Nov. 2018

Caveat : The Captaincy picks are in the below format -

  • Number one pick predicted as per the Fix Algorithm
  • Differential pick (Under 25% ownership)
  • 'Out there' pick (Under 15% ownership)

Sergio Agüero (BOU)

Agüero disappointed his backers in gameweek 13 after again failing to register Fantasy Premier League (FPL) returns on his travels, making it five blanks out of six on the road. The Argentinian has scored 67 of his 82 points at the Etihad, and with Bournemouth his next guests, he is backed as the standout captain pick this week. The contrast between his home and away numbers is stark – he has fired an average of 4.1 shots in the box (SiB) at home vs. only 2.2 away, and 1.9 attempted assists vs 1.2. In fact, no player has attempted more shots, SiB or shots on target (SoT) on home turf than the Argentinian, and no player has scored more FPL points at home than Agüero’s 67. After a strong start to the season, Bournemouth have lost their last three games, shipping two goals in each. Over the last four gameweeks, only Burnley (51) and Newcastle (47) have allowed opponents more SiB than the Cherries’ 44, and with the Champions averaging over three goals a game this season a goalfest appears likely at the Etihad. Our Fix Algorithm predicts a point score of 8.2 for the Argentinian.

Raheem Sterling (BOU)

The current overall top scorer in FPL, Sterling has registered double digit scores four times already this season, and has registered 39 points in his last three games, making him the ultimate explosive differential pick. Only Salah (18) has taken more SiB amongst midfielders on home turf, and only Agüero has scored more FPL points at home. Despite missing two matches, Sterling leads the league for penalty box touches (110) and is tied for most goals amongst midfielders with Hazard and Salah at seven. The Englishman has a great record vs. Bournemouth, scoring seven goals and assisting two over five matches. No team has fired in more SoT than the Champions 36 over the last six gameweeks, and the Bournemouth defence is sure to be in for a busy afternoon. In their last six league games against the Cherries, Man. City have scored a whopping 21 goals with 13 of those coming in their three home games. Our Fix Algorithm expects this trend to continue, with a point score of 6.8 for Sterling.

David Silva (BOU)

D. Silva continued his scoring streak by scoring against West Ham in gameweek 13, which makes it three goals in three games for the normally goal shy playmaker. Over the last six gameweeks, only Salah (15) and Paterson (13) have taken more SiB amongst midfielders than D. Silva’s 12, and only Mooy (15), Hazard (18) and Willian (19) have created more chances than the Spaniard’s 14. His spot in the team has been further solidified by the injuries to De Bruyne and B. Silva, with the Spaniard now the creative fulcrum. 77% of Bournemouth’s matches have involved a total of three or more goals, and with the Champions scoring a goal every 29 minutes this season, the Cherries could be in for a thumping. Our Fix Algorithm predicts a point score of 7.0 for the Spanish magician.
