Tom Dollimore, ranked World No.1 in several Hall of Fame rankings, has activated his Wildcard ahead of Gameweek 6.
With an outstanding Fantasy Premier League record — a best-ever finish of 291st in 2021, 2× Top 1k, 4× Top 5k, and 5× Top 10k finishes — his decisions always carry weight in the FPL community.
We caught up with Tom to get his first thoughts on why he’s played the chip now, what teams and players are on his radar, and how he’s planning his future chip strategy.
When asked about his decision to activate the Wildcard, Tom explained that it had been on his mind for some time.
“I’d been weighing up Gameweek 6 and Gameweek 13 for a while, and was already leaning toward Gameweek 6 ahead of Gameweek 5 as my team was drifting further from optimal. Gameweek 6 also looked like a natural point to switch Salah to Haaland. The Palmer injury recurrence gave me some last-minute doubt, but I’ve still gone ahead – waiting longer could mean too much team value lost.”
So while the timing wasn’t an impulsive call, ensuring he could keep pace with early price changes was a factor.
Of course, Wildcard decisions aren’t just about individual players — fixtures play a huge part. Tom identified clear turning points in the calendar that have influenced his planning.
“From Gameweek 6:
Worse fixtures: Liverpool.
Good fixtures: Man City, Spurs, Arsenal, Aston Villa, Everton.”
This fixture shift creates clear opportunities for Tom’s Wildcard reshuffle. As shown in the Fixture Planner tool, both Spurs and Man City have favourable home ties in Gameweek 6 against Wolves and Burnley. That goes some way to explaining why five of his current picks come from those two sides.
Arsenal’s Gameweek 6 trip to Newcastle could be tricky, but from Gameweek 7 to 11 the Predicted Points & Stats tool projects them as the standout team for clean sheets — comfortably ahead of the competition. This helps justify Tom’s decision to double up on the Gunners’ defence in his current draft.
Every Wildcard carries uncertainty as managers tinker with the final few spots, but Tom is clear on some names that won’t be moving from his squad.
“Haaland, Reijnders, Bruno Fernandes, Tarkowski, and Senesi.”
Haaland looks like a must-have for anyone considering a Wildcard.
As Tom pointed out, City’s fixtures are about to turn favourable — and the numbers only strengthen the case. The forward is averaging 9.2 FPL points per game according to the Opta Heatmaps tool, with 6 goals in 5 matches. He also leads the league for shots (21), shots on target (10), expected goals (5.06), and bonus points (12).
Alongside him, teammate Reijnders offers superb value at just £5.6m. He’s already produced 1 goal, 2 assists, 2 bonus points, and 26 FPL points. Encouragingly, Pep roulette hasn’t been much of a concern so far, with the Citizens naming the same starting XI for three consecutive games.
Further afield, Bruno Fernandes remains at the heart of everything for Manchester United. No player has attempted more assists in the league (15), and only Andersen (122) edges him for final-third passes (121). The Portuguese international sits top for FPL points (26) for the Red Devils, with 2 goals, as highlighted in the Opta Stats Sandbox.
At the back, Senesi (66) and Tarkowski (61) are emerging as the ultimate DEFCON monsters. They rank first and second among defenders for defensive contributions this season, and the Opta Heatmaps tool shows just how crucial they are to their respective teams. With the new DEFCON point system, both look well-placed to keep ticking over in Tom’s squad.
It’s not just about the Wildcard — Tom is already looking ahead to maximise his other chips later in the season.
“Currently deciding between setting up for Bench Boost in Gameweek 6 or Gameweek 7. Free Hit is pencilled in for Gameweek 12 or Gameweek 14, but I’ll keep it flexible if a big blank or double appears. Triple Captain is pencilled in for Gameweek 17.”
His comments underline the importance of forward planning, while keeping an open mind to react to fixture changes or rearrangements.
Tom Dollimore’s Gameweek 6 Wildcard highlights the importance of timing, fixture swings, and squad value.
With Haaland coming in, Liverpool assets dropping off, and strong fixtures for Man City, Spurs, Arsenal, and Everton, his strategy provides key insights for FPL managers everywhere.
