FPL Gameweek 30: Is Haaland Worth the Money? Top 3 Forward Replacements Compared

Over the last 12 Gameweeks, Haaland has scored 44 FPL points, averaging 3.66 points per game. Nine forwards have scored more over that period, with one forward scoring double that total (88 FPL points).

In this blog, we compare the best forward alternatives to Haaland to determine whether the most expensive Fantasy Premier League player in the game is worth his £14.6m price tag.

We also share what an ideal FPL team might look like without the Norwegian international.

Shortlisting the Candidates - FPL Points since Gameweek 18

As the image above from our Stats Sandbox feature shows, João Pedro has been the top-scoring FPL forward over the last 12 Gameweeks with a whopping 88 FPL points — double Haaland’s total (44). Surprisingly, Bowen ranks second (60), with Thiago close behind (59).

Forward FPL Points Gameweek 18-29

Šeško's return of 52 FPL points is impressive considering he has played nearly half the available minutes (588), racking up six goals and 12 FPL bonus points.

Ekitiké has been a popular replacement option for Haaland but, despite consistent minutes, he has managed just 46 FPL points, with three goals and as many assists.

Budget forwards Raúl (51) and Barry (47) have also bettered Haaland’s total at a fraction of his price.

The Underlying Numbers - Which Forwards have the most Goal Threat?

As the image from our Stats Sandbox feature shows, João Pedro ranks top amongst forwards for 'Expected Goals' (xG) (9.14) over the last 12 Gameweeks.

Expected Goals Stats for Forwards

The Brazilian international is third amongst forwards for shots in the box (30) over the aforementioned period and it is worth noting that he also ranks top for 'big chances' (16). This is all the more impressive considering he is not on penalty duties.

Meanwhile, Haaland ranks sixth for shots in the box (24), sixth for 'big chances' (nine) and fifth for xG (5.91).

Thiago and Šeško are joint-top for shots in the box (31), with the former being afforded 14 'big chances' compared to 10 for the latter. However, the fact that Šeško has accomplished this while playing just 588 minutes is particularly impressive. The Slovenian international also ranks top for shots on target (19).

Interestingly, the second-top scoring forward Bowen ranks just 14th for shots in the box (16) and 13th for xG (3.24). However, he ranks top for attempted assists (17) and 'big chances' created (six), adding another creative dimension to his game that many of the other options do not offer.

Big Chance stats for Forwards

As the image above from our Stats Sandbox feature shows, Watkins and Ekitiké have been afforded 22 'big chances' between them but have scored just eight goals. The French international has been particularly wasteful, converting only three of his 10 'big chances' and scoring just three goals from 6.44 xG.

Who are the most Creative Forwards?

As the image from our Stats Sandbox feature shows, João Pedro is top for FPL assists (six) over the last 12 Gameweeks but he has had every one of his attempted assists (six) converted from an 'Expected Assists' (xA) tally of just 0.43. None of these six attempted assists were classified as 'big chances' created by Opta, which indicates he has been a bit lucky.

Creativity Stats for Forwards

Bowen is ranked top for attempted assists (17) and 'big chances' created (six) which adds another attribute to his game that most of the other options do not have. He is second for FPL assists (four) and also tops the DEFCON (113) numbers amongst forwards which shows his multiple routes to points.

Haaland's creativity numbers have improved. The Norwegian international ranks third for attempted assists (11) and fourth for 'big chances' created (two), but his xA (1.54) still isn’t anything worth shouting about.

Big chances created by Forwards

As the above image from our Stats Sandbox feature shows, Thiago owners have been unlucky, the 24-year-old has attempted 10 assists and is second for 'big chances' created (four) but has only one FPL assist to show for it.

Meanwhile, Ekitiké has racked up three FPL assists from three 'big chances' created and 2.11 xA.

Raúl ranks second for attempted assists (14) but has recorded just 0.96 xA. The Mexican international appears to be the best budget forward option, with no forward attempting more shots than his 34.

Which Forwards Have the Best Fixtures?

As the image from our Fixture Difficulty Ratings feature shows, only Thiago and Šeško’s teams rank in the top six for Attack Difficulty over the next six Gameweeks, leaving FPL managers with a classic form vs fixtures dilemma.

Fixture Difficulty Ratings Gameweek 30-35 for the 2025/26 season

Chelsea are ranked 11th, and the possibility of rotation also looms around their Champions League tie with PSG. Liverpool are ranked ninth, while West Ham sit 16th.

Meanwhile, Fulham have four away games in their next six, and the fitness of Muniz puts Raúl’s gametime in doubt.

What do the Projections say?

As the image from our Player Points Projections feature shows, Thiago is the top projected scoring forward (29.9) over the next six Gameweeks, with Haaland’s blank in Gameweek 31 placing him second (28.1).

The Brentford forward’s strong underlying numbers, coupled with attractive fixtures, strengthen his case.

Despite poor underlying goal threat numbers and difficult fixtures, Bowen (26.4) ranks third thanks to his multiple routes to points.

João Pedro is fourth (24.6), but given his current form and new role under Rosenior, the Brazilian international could be expected to outperform these projections.

Best FPL Team without Haaland

The team generated by our Assistant Manager tool features a front line of João Pedro, Ekitiké and Thiago who are the three best forward options based on the analysis above.

Best No Haaland Team Gameweek 30

It retains a strong midfield core of B.Fernandes, Palmer and Semenyo while also featuring heavyweight defenders such as Gabriel and Virgil.

Furthermore, this team only has two players blanking in Gameweek 31, which makes benching Gabriel and Semenyo that week easily manageable.
