Looking for the best Fantasy Premier League (FPL) captain for Gameweek 9?
Each week we break down the top captaincy options to help you maximise points and climb your mini-leagues.
For Gameweek 9, we’ve highlighted three standout choices:
1️⃣ Fix’s No.1 predicted captain pick
2️⃣ A safe, high-ownership option (20%+ ownership)
3️⃣ A bold differential captain (under 20% ownership)
These picks cover every type of FPL manager — whether you prefer to play it safe with the crowd or chase early gains with a differential.
Haaland’s total of 11 goals this season is nearly double that of the next-best, Semenyo (six) — and the data behind his dominance is staggering.
The Norwegian leads all players for shots (34), shots on target (18), 'big chances' (17), and Expected Goals (xG) (8.29).

As the Match Centre tool shows in the image above, Haaland’s form over the last five matches is unmatched — 8 goals, 13 shots on target, and an xG of 5.4, more than seven times higher than any Villa player.
It’s no surprise then that Manchester City top the charts for attacking metrics — scoring 17 goals, the most in the league. They’re also second for both shots on target (39) and 'big chances' (27).
Their hosts, Aston Villa, have conceded eight goals in as many matches (sixth fewest) and kept two clean sheets. Defensively, they rank ninth for both shots conceded (91) and Expected Goals Conceded (xGC) (11.07), suggesting they’re solid — but not impenetrable.

23/24: 8 goals, 1 assist (68 pts)
22/23: 14 goals, 2 assists (89 pts)

Our Predicted Points & Stats tool currently projects a score of 5.7 for Haaland.
And if you missed it, Haaland is on pace to smash Salah’s all-time FPL record — we’ve broken down the maths behind it in this blog.
Semenyo's total of 70 FPL points is 24 more than the next best midfielder Caicedo (46), the Ghanaian international's total of 17 shots in the box, 10 shots on target, seven 'big chances' and 4.15 xG are top amongst midfielders.
As the below image from our Player Heatmaps feature shows, he has averaged 10.5 FPL points per game in home matches this season.

Bournemouth have scored 14 goals with only Arsenal (15), Chelsea (16) and Man. City (17) more prolific. The Cherries are ranked eighth for shots (99) and ninth for xG (11.74).
Their visitors Forest have conceded 15 goals with only Wolves (16) and West Ham (18) faring worse. The Nottingham side have not yet kept a clean sheet this season and are ranked 19th for xGC (15.91).
Our Predicted Points & Stats tool currently projects a score of 5.0 for Semenyo.
Bruno Fernandes has scored just two goals this season, but it could easily have been more — he’s missed two penalties. Manager Rúben Amorim confirmed earlier this week that the Portuguese international will remain Manchester United’s first-choice penalty taker despite those misses.
As shown in the image below from our Opta Stats Sandbox, no player in the league has created more chances than Bruno Fernandes (22) this season. Among midfielders, only Eze (18), Semenyo (19), Mbeumo (20), and Gakpo (21) have taken more shots than his 18.

Man United have scored 11 goals (ninth) but are second for shots in the box (87) and top for xG (17.42).
Their opponents Brighton have conceded 11 goals (10th) and have not yet kept a clean sheet. The Seagulls are ranked ninth for shots conceded (91) and seventh for xGC (10.53).
Our Predicted Points & Stats tool currently projects a score of 4.3 for B. Fernandes
