As the below image shows, Thiaw tops the Custom Stats xFPL table for Gameweek 7 with a score of 11.1. The 24-year-old took two shots in the box, one of which was a 'big chance' and also created a 'big chance'.
Eze led the way for shots in the box (four) and could be set for an extended run in the Arsenal side following Ødegaard’s injury. However, the England international landed only one of these attempts on target and had no ‘big chance’ involvements, resulting in a low xFPL score of just 4.5.
Digne and Longstaff were the weekend’s most creative players with five attempted assists each. None of Digne’s chances were classified by Opta as ‘big chances’, while Longstaff managed just one, leading to xFPL scores of 5.3 and 4.2 respectively.
No player was afforded more ‘big chances’ (three) than Woltemade. The German international could have delivered a much bigger haul, as reflected in his xFPL score of 9.6.
Salah posted stronger underlying numbers but still failed to return in FPL. The Egyptian international attempted four assists — one a ‘big chance’ created — and took two shots in the box, one of which was a ‘big chance’. He finished with an xFPL score of 7.1.
xFPL is calculated primarily using expected goals (xG), assists (xA), which combine as Fantasy Premier League (FPL) involvements (xG + xA = xI), as well as expected clean sheets (xCS). These numbers are a result of underlying statistics (i.e. shot type and location will give a probability of scoring = xG). xFPL is the combination of these statistics and factors in appearance and bonus points to give an overall expected FPL point score.
As shown in the Transfer Analytics tool below, Semenyo is the most transferred-in player ahead of Gameweek 8, with over 300,000 FPL managers bringing him in at the time of writing.
Haaland, Woltemade, Caicedo and Kudus all found the net at the weekend, boosting their popularity among FPL managers.
Salah’s consecutive blanks have prompted over 250,000 managers to part ways with the Egyptian international, while Grealish has also been sold by more than 150,000 despite his haul against Palace — with his ineligibility to face parent club Man City in Gameweek 8 driving those transfers.
The misfiring forward trio of João Pedro, Gyökeres and Richarlison are also being sold in large numbers after consecutive blanks.
A look at the Top 10 forward transfer combinations shows that the traffic is fairly scattered, with no move accounting for more than 7%. The most popular is Watkins ➝ Gyökeres (6.6%). Interestingly, existing owners of the Swedish international are moving him on for Woltemade or Bowen.
The Top 10 Midfield transfer combinations are interesting, although no combination is more popular than 6.1%, it is clear that all traffic is headed towards Semenyo, Sarr, Kudus and Saka with B. Fernandes, Grealish, Ndiaye, Xavi and Salah the midfielders being sold.
The Top 10 Defender transfer combinations are dominated by Arsenal assets with Gabriel and J. Timber accounting for eight of the top 10 defender transfers in. Burn and Alderete are the other two defenders being bought with Virgil, N. Williams, Porro, Dorgu and Livramento making way.
Kudus (39) and Enzo (41) have enjoyed strong starts to the season with the duo sitting at sixth and fourth in the midfielder FPL points rankings.
As the above image from our Player Heatmaps feature shows, both players have scored similarly with Enzo edging it slightly for points per game (5.6 vs 5.9). It is worth noting that both have started every game for their resptive sides and played almost all of the possible 630 minutes.
As the above numbers show, Enzo is more of a goal scorer with three goals compared to just one for Kudus. The Argentinian has a significantly higher 'Expected Goals' (xG) tally (1.87 vs 3.42) but in terms of shot volume, there is nothing to split the two with an identical number of shots on target (five) and shots in the box (eight).
Kudus has the edge when it comes to creativity with four assists compared to just one for Enzo. He has also attempted more assists (12 vs eight) and has a much higher 'Expected Assists' (1.33 vs 0.70) total as well.
Both appear to be good picks, with Enzo's FPL prospects largely dependent on Palmer's fitness. If the England international is back for Chelsea after the international break, it might mean Enzo reverts back to a deeper role.
