Expected FPL Points Review - A look at the stats

As the below image shows, B. Fernandes tops the Custom Stats xFPL table for Gameweek 5 with a score of 10.0. The Portuguese international took three shots, one of which was in the box and attempted one assist.

Stats for Gameweek 5

Richarlison and Isidor led the way for shots in the box (five each). Both registered a single big chance, landed two shots on target, and delivered strong underlying numbers with xFPL scores of 8.5 and 8.3 respectively.

Reijnders was the standout creator, fashioning two big chances — the only player to do so over the weekend. He also attempted a shot in the box and finished with an xFPL score of 7.0.

For Burnley, Anthony topped the charts for shots on target (three). The midfielder also attempted two shots in the box and was handed one big chance, resulting in an xFPL score of 7.1.

Meanwhile, Salah disappointed captainers once again. The Egyptian managed just two shots in the box and created a single chance, with no big chance involvement. His output translated to a lowly xFPL score of 3.5.

What is xFPL?

xFPL is calculated primarily using expected goals (xG), assists (xA), which combine as Fantasy Premier League (FPL) involvements (xG + xA = xI), as well as expected clean sheets (xCS). These numbers are a result of underlying statistics (i.e. shot type and location will give a probability of scoring = xG). xFPL is the combination of these statistics and factors in appearance and bonus points to give an overall expected FPL point score.

Early FPL Transfer Activity Analysed - Which players are FPL managers buying and selling?

As shown in the below image from our Transfer Analytics feature, Haaland is currently the most transferred in player ahead of Gameweek 6 with over 400,000 FPL managers bringing him in at the time of writing.

Manchester City’s upcoming fixture against Burnley has made their players hot property. Haaland, Donnarumma and Reijnders all feature among the top five most transferred-in players for Gameweek 6.

At Bournemouth, both Semenyo and Senesi impressed against Newcastle by racking up Defensive Contribution (DEFCON) points, leading to more than 450,000 combined transfers in.

On the flip side, Sánchez has been transferred out by over 200,000 managers following his red card against Man United. However, it’s worth noting that his one-match suspension will be served in the League Cup, meaning he remains available for Chelsea in Gameweek 6.

Elsewhere, patience has run out with several underperformers. Wirtz, Watkins, and Wood have suffered multiple blanks, prompting mass sales. Even Salah is being moved on, largely to free up funds for Haaland.

Looking at the Top 10 Forward transfer combinations, Haaland and Gyökeres dominate the market — together they occupy nine of the ten spots. Meanwhile, Watkins, Wood and Ekitiké are among the most sold forwards.

Nine of the Top 10 Midfield transfer combinations involve selling a Liverpool midfielder with Salah, Wirtz and Gakpo being sold in droves. Semenyo, Reijnders, Ndiaye and B. Fernandes are the most popular midfielders being bought.

The Top 10 Defender transfer combinations are dominated by Senesi, J. Timber and Gabriel. Cucurella, Porro and Murillo are some of the defenders being sold after their blanks in Gameweek 5.

Best Everton Midfield Enabler: Ndiaye vs Grealish vs Dewsbury-Hall

Everton welcome a struggling West Ham side in Gameweek 6. The Hammers have conceded 13 goals, the most in the league, and only Burnley (61) have allowed more shots in the box than their 52.

Player Comparison Ndiaye vs Grealish vs Dewsbury-Hall

As the above image from our Player Comparison Matrix shows, all three of their midfielders Ndiaye, Grealish and Dewsbury-Hall look like god picks.

Ndiaye leads the way among the trio with 28 FPL points, thanks to 2 goals, 3 shots on target, and 2 big chances. He has also picked up DEFCON points twice, something neither Grealish nor Dewsbury-Hall have managed so far, and he looks likely to be on penalty duties.

Grealish boasts the strongest underlying data. The England international sits top for assists (4), attempted assists (13), shots in the box (6), big chances created (3) and xFPL (24). At £6.8m, he is the most expensive option of the three. One caveat, though: he will blank in Gameweek 8 as he cannot face his parent club, Man City.

Dewsbury-Hall, priced at just £5.0m, offers strong value. He has created almost as many chances as Grealish (12 vs 13), matched him for big chances created (3), and actually attempted more shots in the box than Ndiaye (4 vs 2). However, he sits on four yellow cards, meaning one more would trigger a suspension.
