Expected FPL Points Review - A look at the stats

As the below image shows, Mbeumo tops the Custom Stats xFPL table for Gameweek 3 with a score of 10.8. The Cameroon international took three shots in the box, landed two on target and attempted five assists.

Stats for Gameweek 3

Haaland and Zirkzee were top for shots (seven) and shots in the box (six), Haaland was afforded two 'big chances' with Zirkzee managing just one, the Norwegian international notched double the xFPL score (10.1) compared to the latter (4.9).

B. Fernandes was the weekend's most creative player with six attempted assists. The Portuguese international also took two shots inside the box, one of which was a penalty and notched an xFPL score of 9.7.

Grealish continues to impress for Everton, he took two shots in the box, one of which was classified as a 'big chance' by Opta and also created a 'big chance'. He nearly managed to hit DEFCON points as well, falling short by just one (11). The England international was ranked fifth for xFPL (8.9) over the weekend.

What is xFPL?

xFPL is calculated primarily using expected goals (xG), assists (xA), which combine as Fantasy Premier League (FPL) involvements (xG + xA = xI), as well as expected clean sheets (xCS). These numbers are a result of underlying statistics (i.e. shot type and location will give a probability of scoring = xG). xFPL is the combination of these statistics and factors in appearance and bonus points to give an overall expected FPL point score.

João Pedro has found the back of the net in consecutive weeks for Chelsea and has been bought by nearly 250,000 FPL managers. Semenyo and Ekitiké's blanks did not deter FPL managers from buying with the duo third and fifth for most transferred in ahead of Gameweek 4.

Palmer continues to be sold after missing out against Fulham, over 400,000 FPL managers have parted ways with the England international since the Gameweek 3 deadline. Cunha picked up a hamstring injury while Wood and Watkins' blanks have also seen them shipped out in droves.

A look at the Top 10 Forward transfer combinations shows that João Pedro is the priority for FPL managers with the Brazilian accounting for nearly half of the Top 10 Forward Transfer Combinations. Mateta, Evanilson, Richarlison and Ekitiké are also popular buys with Guiu, Wood, Watkins and Strand Larsen being sold.

As the below image from the Top 10 Midfield transfer combinations shows, the transfers out for Midfielders are quite spread out with Palmer to Grealish (5.5%) the most popular transfer. Semenyo, Enzo, Sarr and Gakpo are the other popular options with Cunha , Reijnders and Rogers also making way.

The Top 10 Defender transfer combinations are even more spread out than the midfielders with Dorgu to Senesi (2.6%) the most popular move. Senesi does dominate the defender transfers in with him and Chalobah occupying the entire Top 10. Diouf, Wan-Bissaka, Aina and Murillo are some of the defensive assets being sold.

Everton Midfielders: Dewsbury-Hall vs Grealish

Everton have bolstered their attacking options over the Summer window with the addition of Dewsbury-Hall and Grealish to their squad.

Dewsbury-Hall vs Grealish points

As the above image from our Player Heatmaps feature shows, despite playing fewer minutes (198) Grealish has racked up 22 points compared to 16 for Dewsbury-Hall.

Stats Comparison Dewsbury-Hall vs Grealish

As the stats in the above image from our Player Heatmaps feature shows, Grealish looks to be worth the extra money. The former Man. City man has taken more shots in the box (one vs three) and though Dewsbury-Hall has attempted more assists (eight vs five) and created more 'big chances' (three vs two), Grealish still comes out trumps for 'Expected Assists' (1.25 vs 1.55).
